Default New Flash and Recall

Yesterday, I read somewhere on one of the Cummins forums that there is a new flash released on the 4th for '07 and '08 6.7s. It supposedly addresses the soot issues with the DPF and EGR as well as some idle and drivability issues. I can't find the thread. Does anyone have the info?
As well there was a recall issued on the 4th for 6.7 trucks to deal with a loose or sagging silencer pad that could contact the EGR Cooler and cause a fire. It is ID # 08V641000.

Still looking for the flash but here's more info on the recall.

Quote:
Chrysler is recalling 108,429 2007-08 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups equipped with 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines after 14 reports of fires caused by sagging noise insulation coming into contact with the engine's exhaust gas recirculation cooler.

Diesel engines use EGR systems to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, a major pollutant that contributes to smog, asthma, and respiratory and heart diseases. EGR recirculates a portion of the engine's exhaust back into the engine at a lower temperature.

Readers may remember that early 2008 model year Ford Super Duty trucks with 6.4-liter Power Stroke diesel engines were also recalled after 3 fires were reported. Those particular thermal events were caused by combustible fluids igniting after becoming trapped in the diesel particulate filter, another emissions control device used to virtually eliminate soot from being released into the environment.

To prevent fires from occurring in Dodge Ram pickups, dealers will add a bracket in the engine compartment to support the silencer pad so it won't sag and touch the EGR cooler.

Ram owners affected by the recall can contact Chrysler with questions at 1-800-853-1403. Refer to NHTSA campaign number 08V641000

I guess that I should update the above info. In speaking with the service manager at my dealership, just before Christmas, I learned that the recall has not been made and/or released here in Canada. When and if it is made the Canadian recall will have a completely different recall #.
The new flash was released for install on Canadian trucks. It deals with issues relating to soot accumulation as well as some drivability issues. I have not been having any problems in the areas that the new flash addresses, so I elected not to have the flash installed at this time.
As I have stated before, I am very happy with this truck. I am running it presently with a gutted intake tube, a drop in K&N filter and a hole cut in the bottom of the stock intake box. Other than those mods, she is stock including the tires. Mileage on highway runs, has been right around 20 mpg, calculated. Over the Christmas holidays on a run on bad roads, in bad weather, in 4x4 for all but 40 to 50 kms, the truck went 710 kms on 77 litres of fuel. Now the speed was low, no more than 80 kph most of the way but still great ecconomy.

Thanks for the update and you cleared up why my tech said I had the latest and greatest when it comes to flashes and recalls.

What speed are you running at on the highway? The best I've been able to get was 18 MPG at 70 MPH which tells me if I could slow down to 55 or 60 MPH 20 would be possible.

On a normal day, when pavement is bare, I usually lock it on cruise at about 110 kph. On highway 2, between here (Edmonton) and Calgary, I run it on cruise at 120 kph. The day that I spoke of earlier was December 18th. The temperature was about -25 C with a -35 C wind chill. As I said, we were doing about 80 to 85 kpm for most of the return 700+ kms. At times we were down to 60 kpms. The truck burned 77 litres of fuel. The mileage figures are all calculated in Imperial measure, so yours would be about 20.
To put this mileage issue in another perspective, my former tow vehicle was a 5.9 L Grand Cherokee which, when towing, got 10 mpg on a good day at 100 kph, pulling a 24' trailer. On a hot day it would over heat with the a/c on. Push it any faster, say to 110 kph and the mileage dropped to about 8. At that weight and size, the Jeep was at it's limit! This truck will haul our new 28' trailer and 1000 lbs in the box all day long with the air and stereo on and get 14 to 15 mpg at 110 kph. And I've got an engine brake to boot! Last summer I put about 18,000 kms on with the trailer on the hitch. The truck paid for itself.

Thanks for the info. I need to visit my dealer now for 2 recalls. One for the dash, and one for the steering linkage.
