Default 2009 Cummins 6.7L Revisions

So what's new for 2009 for our beloved Cummins other then the updated fuel filter? Cummins 6.7L Revised Fuel Filter

Well the first thing that was pointed out was that the Turbo now has an access port on the Turbochargers exhaust housing for cleaning. They also revised the water inlet housing and alternator bracket to accommodate new flexible braided coolant lines with O-ring fittings that go to cool the exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger. Other then that it looked the same to me.

Angry 6.7 fuel economy

I am the proud owner of the biggest fuel hog I have ever owned. Each time i have a flash installed, i lose mileage. I get 12 mpg all around empty driving, and 7.5 to 9 pulling a 3500 lb. travel trailer. Not much power. Dealers say not much can be done. Lots of other issues. Now I have exhaust smoke entering the cab air intake through the a/c ducts. Dealer told me I'm due for a filter replacement (under the valve cover) and EGR cleaning, cost of approx $425. Tailpipe and bumper are black, truck smokes during acceleration. By the way, I'm not a hard driver, just want to drive highway speeds. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm tired of feeding this pig.
I had a 2004 5.9 that got about 14-15 mpg on highway. Poor but OK. At about 85000 miles something miraculous happened. I had been driving about 450 miles per tankful, then on a 1200 mile trip, it went about 675 miles on a tankfull and the horsepower went through the roof! Hand calculated at about 23 mpg, and has been there ever since. Dealer said "finally broke in". At 96000 developed crankshaft oil seal leak, and dealer replaced short block. First trip out of the box got 21 mpg, and has been there ever since. Now has 130000 miles and gets 23-24 all around driving in Dallas-Ft. Worth area. So much for "break in". All I can think of is that it is a computer setting that Dodge doesn't want to talk about. Asked several dealers and they can't explain it. Sold it to my son-in-law and sure miss it.

Time to find another dealer! I don't get less then 10mpg towing my 5er, 12,000+lbs, 36'. Empty with tools (7800lbs): short trip driving ~14.5+/- mpg and highway 17-19 mpg.
With exhaust coming thru the vents you havce an exhaust leak somewhere, most likely a gasket on the egr (it happened to me, covered by warranty).
