Default Fuel filter stuck 2008 2500 Ram

Hi all: I'm new to the site and looking for help . Trying to change the fuel filter for the first time. Instructions on filter cartridge say to not use a filter wrench, but filter is so tight that I'm afraid I'll break the bottom of the filter if I pull any harder on the 1/2 inch ratchet. Squid said that he used a filter wrench . Was that on the plastic housing type filter? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, sometimes gorilla's torque them down and some folks do not realize its a low pressure filter (max of 15 psi) ....

Sometime you have to use an oil filter wrench like this:

Use it at the base only and be easy about it. You use it enough to break the seal, then the normal method works fine.

Hope that helps.

I had to use an oil filter wrench first time. After that I was able to use the 1/2 socket. Lots of gorillas seem to be employed in the fuel filter installation spot in the assembly lines!

You can also use a 1/2" drive ratchet inserted in the the bottom of the filter (You can't turn the filter the wrong way because the opening for the ratchet will only allow you to remove the filter this way). I ended up using a strap wrench.
