How many miles do you have on it? From what I've read, high egt's can be caused by a number of things from a bad injector to a blown turbo. Is it still under warranty? i don't think idling will cause it.

My suggest would be to get a Infrared hand held temp unit from Harbor Freight (about 30.00) and do some testing at the same point as the sensor. Could be something as simple as a bad sensor (if really lucky). If DPF is cool and the pipes at the sensor are cool, then possible sensor issue .... Can you post more info about when you see this happening ? Driving conditions, towing, etc. Details would help us all. Hope this helps a little ![]() Cheers.

Thank Guys,
Appreciate the feedback. I have confirmed that you are both right. Idling is not the issue. I had the truck in to the Dodge dealer previously and the sensor was replaced. Codes P2080 (EGT Sensor Performance - Bank 1) and P242B (EGT Too High Bank -2) are set. (Innova OBD II code reader - bought a new one). Mileage 47000 km (less than 30000 miles). EGT temp is 1574 deg F. As this is the second time in less than a month with the same issue, I want to get some insight into what is causing this. If 79ta is right, and there is a turbo gone I want to get it fixed while the last of the warranty is still in place. I am on the fence as to whether I want to pay to extend the warranty at this juncture. I was driving on highway at 100 km/h (60 mph) when the light came on. There was no load and driving condition were fair on bare pavement. I will try to upload the data from the reader and post it. If nothing else, I will at least document and share my findings in the hope that someone else can benefit from my experience. Happy New Year |

Great news. The electronics on newer vehicles are funny and sometimes the fix is a simple sensor. Keep us posted.

So to end this story. I have put another 8000 miles on the truck since this probelm started. Since then I have completed the EGR Service/Clean and I drive it 'like it should be' (quoting Squid). Haven't had any issues since. Now that I have a Juice installed I can see the EGT. It runs within the norms and goes high when REGEN starts.
Love this truck |
