hey squid....why you buying volant? I have run numerous different intakes on my trucks and I won't run anything but AirAid due to quality, power, and warranty.

That's why I'm buying the Volant. Quality, power and warranty.

Quote:
Donaldson Endurance™ Air Filters with exclusive nanofiber technology offer longer engine life, longer filter life, initial efficiency up to 99.99 percent and five times more capacity.
The nanofiber technology causes submicron contaminants to be held on the surface layer of smaller fibers. This filtration characteristic is only possible with this new type of air filtration technology. In on-highway applications, where the contaminant is primarily submicron in size, Donaldson Endurance filters cause less restriction than conventional filters with cellulose media. The smaller interfiber spaces of nanofiber technology have a higher efficiency and capture more contaminant.
The following illustration may help visualize these phenomena: Imagine two filters, a chain link fence and a mosquito net, with a tennis ball being a dirt particle. As you may have observed, a tennis ball will fit quite nicely into an opening of a chain link fence, but will obstruct the hole almost 100%. Now imaging the same tennis ball covering a mosquito net. The tennis ball, at the point of contact with the netting, will obstruct much less filter area than the chain link fence example. In fact, air will flow around the tennis ball all the way to the point of contact. It will take many more particles to obstruct the netting surface area than the chain link fence.
Donaldson Endurance™ air filters are guaranteed to deliver twice the miles between change intervals over cellulose air filters for on-highway applications or customers receive a new filter at no charge.

If that's not enough info try the PDF and I think you'll agree that the Donaldson air filter in the Volant is what you need in a dusty area like where I live and to me well worth the extra $.

I live in Phoenix, AZ...I doubt you are dustier there...the AirAid has better filteration and offers the pre-filter for guys who want even more. It has the same amountof cotton layers as everyone else, plus a synthetic cotton on the outside to hinder the breakdown, as all cotton does over time. I refuse to run anything else, and to top everything off, the rubber compound that they use will not dry rott like most of the competition will... I've done all my research and have run many different filters on many different trucks and to this day no one can get me away from AirAid...but thats just my .02....Im in sales myself and I know propaganda and i schpeal it out myself most of the time, and everyone has there little idea why theirs is better and only AirAid has backed it up IMO

System to system, I don't believe that there is much difference. I do like the filter design that Squids setup comes with. I don't like oiling the filter. If I can find one that would fit my setup, I will buy it. 99.99% filtering is very good while achieving good flow as well.

Go to the Volant website. They have all kinds of powercore replacement sizes to fit most CAI's on the market.

As for Cold Air Intakes in general, I agree with Vis-a'-vis.The only difference I've seen is some of the tubes are metal and some like the Volant aren't and some have open tops while others have lids and then of coarse the filter. Some are dry and some are oiled.

I feel that a non metal tube along with a lid will help give you a little cooler air but that's just an opinion and I really have no proof that this is true but this Nano Fiber Filter on the Volant is according to all the data I've seen the best at filtering and flowing there is on the market along with the fact it's water proof so if you like to get wet like I do there's no need for a prefilter. I've been waiting 3 years for it to finally become available to the public and time will tell if it's all it's cracked up to be but I think since it is used on Army vehicles i won't be disappointed.

and it really gave you that much MPG increase ah? That would be the only reason I buy because this has plenty of power and is stock right now. I know it will take a little while to make up that money but at 4.44 a gal right now, it damn sure can hurt.
