Default Superchips Flashpaq

I have an '08 6.7 3500 and will be pulling a 38ft. 5th wheel trailer with total weight of about 14,000 lbs. I'm wondering about modifying the program slightly with a Superchips Flashpaq. I believe their tow setting increases horsepower by 60 and torque by 90 ft lbs. My question is...would I necessarily need to worry about EGT at this setting. I do not race my truck and other than trailer pulling..it doesn't get hammered!

I tow all the time (10,000 lb 5th wheel) in the towing mode. My egt do not rise above the temps without the towing program. I recommend that you get a EGT gauge if you do not have one. It helps to see when your truck goes into regen and when your temps are getting too high...Truck does not like to be lugged when towing. I've installed my thermocouple just back of the turbo, others install their's in the exhaust manifold. In any case you need to know where your temps are and how long to idle before shut-down.

Thanks. Can you tell me what different your Superchips program makes..vs stock program..while towing. And just to be clear..you're saying the tow program does NOT increase EGT too high?

Yes, I use it all the time and no difference towing. It improves towing fuel economy by about 1mpg and improve handling. You still need a EGT gauge. The real temp. increases come from the regen process.

OK, seems pretty clear I need to monitor EGT. Have you or anyone else..had experience with the Edge Insight?

I have had Edge Insight and the EGT sensor for a couple months.
I bought the insight instead of a performance module because of the warranty.
A dealer told me they where having a lot of DPF problems and I did not want to give them a reason not to fix my truck if I had a problem.
The Insight as a bunch of stuff you can monitor and it is very easy to install; I have been very happy with it.
Thanks to Squid and his excellent presentation of the Edge and EGT sensor installation I installed the EGT senor with no problems. You can find his instructions and great pictures in this forum under Edge programmer installation. Edge Programmer Install and Review. Cummins 6.7L

Hope this helps!

The warranty problems on DPF's are due mainly to how you drive your truck. With or without a performance chip, you must let the regen process complete itself. It is possible to get into a regen that never stops and clogs the DPF. Search the site on how to drive this truck and you will see what I mean. imho

Thanks everyone for your great info and tips! I have purchased the Superchips 3808, Flashpaq and I notice it has a fourth program for fuel mileage. Can anyone tell me exactly what this program does to save you fuel? I know what tow does..(increases HP and Torgue modestly)..but how does the thing save you fuel..by reducing HP and Torque??

Thanks for that info...Guess I'll have to down load the latest rev. from superchips. I don't like to do that usually because if it ain't broke I'm not fixing it

Took a trip from here to Myrtle Beach SC. I kept my tuner set on extreme. Never really got on it because I didn't have to. The number or regens was about the same and fuel economy was up 1 mpg. Biggest difference was that the transmission never down shifted going up hills. I'm not recommending this, as I got the feeling I could have done major damage if I had put my foot in it. The potential power of this truck is just amazing...Hauling 10,000 lbs. going up and down hills in 6Th was amazing. No increases in egt were noted but again, I took it easy. We take trips to the Smokey Mountains, no was I would even consider leaving it in extreme for that trip...BTW, I do all my daily driving in extreme...when I need her to scoot....................
