Default programer question

Ok the only issue we have with our 2009 6.7L in out rescue is with the regen. system. You need to reduce the idle time which in our applicaiton is hard to do, plus once it starts the process you must according to the manual drive it at highway speeds up to 45 min. wow we live in a rural area where a truck like this is luck to avg. 40-45mph and at 2 in the morning I can't get a Vol. to drive 45 min's more. The shop tells me if you shut down the truck once it starts the process you need to go to the dealer to have it reset. Ok, thats 2 hours away for us. Is there a programmer out there we can get to reset this? or any idea's on this issue? It's locked up 2x's on us and we only have 2100 miles on the truck.

The way I under stand the J35 flash to behave is that it is a "Net Zero" program for idle. I understand that 'off idle' the EGR will stay stay closed. My train of thought is set for high idle (1200 to 1500 rpm) and it should be 'soot free'. I am proud to say that mine at 54,000 miles has seen the "CAT 90% FULL" indicator 2 times in its life, and I do alot of idleing (I know I shouldn't) but I do anyway, now it is always on high idle when it needs to run for more than 2 minutes. Sorry to here of the troubles.

You won't have to go to the shop if you shut it down during regen. The driving for 45 min is when the DPF gets full, do these steps and it will help it not to get full.
Short trips where the engine does not warm up and excessive idling are the biggest problems. To help with that; when you have the chance get on hard, when going under 45MPH keep it in 4th gear, when in park and the truck needs to be running turn the idle up PTO on (done with your cruse controls), and run the EB.
Plus with that weight you have the truck will be working hard when driving anyways.
You will be just fine.

But you can get something like the Edge Instinct which will tell you everything from when you're Regenerating to boost to tranny temp, etc. As James said shutting down while regenerating it won't hurt anything unless you never ever let the Regeneration cycle complete.

Thanks for the advice, I wil have them try that. Yes Patrick, steerling before going under partnered with dodge to make a truck that competed with the Ford 550 truck, which was great because this need no modifing by the factor to hold 19500 gvw, saving $5000.
As far as the regen maybe the programer would help us with this problem and knowin when it's ready to do it. We have driven this for a hour around the area and can not get the styem to reset, so the only dealer in Maine is Bangor and they cliam it needs to be reset, i was woundering if the J35 reprogram has not been done on this truck yet would this cause it to lock up in this mode?

The J35 seems to have allowed me to idle more often ( i still use my high idle) and certainly has reduced the DPF Full messages to almost nil. I have had one in about 30,000 KMs. I do not allow the transmission to shift into 5th or 6th in town and I always run the Engine Brake. My truck has 108,000+ KMs on it. The exhaust system is intact but I run with the EGR unplugged, a gutted air intake tube and a 4" hole in the bottom of the stock air box. The truck is 50/50 DD and travel trailer hauler.

The J35 update changed the software to enable stationary desoot (regen). Mileage will drop, and it will regen far more often. Idle time has been an issue since the 24v 5.9 came out. The configuration of the cummins engine and the dodge truck does not allow enough cylinder heat retention, and therefore can create an oil/fuel contamination and subsequent cylinder wall lubrication issue. The simplest fix is to turn on the high idle function when extending idle times.
