Squid, it would be nice to know if they can do that in the field.

I do have to say that owning new vehicles has gotten to be the pits. Give me a good old fashion 50's and 60's vehicle. I have a problem with owning something that someone else gets to control ...... Call me strange, but that is the way I feel.

Here's what made me think it was possible for earlier trucks to have this done to them. This is from the G30 recall procedure. 6.7L Cummins Forum

Quote:
CAUTION: On 2007 model trucks, before the application software can be
reprogrammed (flashed) into the Engine Control Module (ECM), the ECM must
first be reprogrammed (flashed) with new “bootloader” software. Failure to
reprogram the ECM with the new “bootloader” software first may cause the
process of reprogramming the ECM with the application software to fail. The
ECM “bootloader” software special flash procedure must be followed exactly to
prevent damage to the ECM.
CAUTION: When performing the “bootloader” section of the repair
procedure, DO NOT interrupt the ECM reprogramming session. This special
ECM “bootloader” software reprogramming session does not support
“abort - recovery” mode. If “bootloader” software is interrupted, the ECM
will be permanently disabled and will require replacement.
Now it's very possible that they changed something internally to the ECM that the earlier trucks don't have and that's why our trucks can't have this implemented?

No, not strange at all. That's why I still have a 56 Chevy Pickup, 72 Toyota FJ-40 and a 82 Corvette. When I'm old and retired I'll be driving them and riding my Harley.
