I am in a similar position as you it seems. I have an EGR Delete but it is not the full EGR cooler delete that removes all of the hardware. Instead it is simply two block plates for the EGR Cooler and a plug for the coolant line.
Now… I have read a lot about this “simple” delete not being the best option for many reason so I would like to do the full EGR cooler delete. The ME software on the smarty will take care of any codes from doing the full delete (as it does with the “simple” delete) but my only question is: what is the difference in the delete I have vs. a full delete? Is it only that the EGR cooler and hardware is removed, the coolant is redirected instead of blocked off (which is a big plus), and So to answer your question, no you do not have to remove the EGR but from what I have read it is a good idea to fully delete it instead of just blocking it off.
