Default transmission shifting

My transmission does not shift into 6th gear for quite some time when the engine is cold and outside temperature is 25 degrees or less. Letting up on the throttle does not seem to help. Does the engine need to be a certain temp before shifting into high gear. I live about 1 mile from the interstate and don't like the high rpms to maintain speed. Any info? Still under warranty. Just haven't had time to take it in yet. Thanks.

My does the same thing when it's cold. Does not seem to be a problem.

I have experienced the same issue during cold weather of 25 degrees or below. I posed a similar question in another thread versus warming up the truck. The consensus seems to be to drive the truck cold, because warming up the truck will result in an increase in soot. I've looked throughout the internet, but cannot find anything to idicate that this is normal function, but I would think it would be a normal means of warming-up the truck and its fluids.

I think I read some where that this was a normal condition. It will allow the temp to rise in the transmission fluid before allowing it to shift into 6th. Mine does it also.

This is normal. The transmission will not shift into 6th gear until it is up to operating temperature.

Yes your temp on the trans needs to be higher than 60 Deg F before it will shift into 6th gear. Thanks to the Edge for this info.
