Default Cummins 6.7L Oil Analysis

When I got my last new truck (Gas Engine) I was still pretty old school when it came to oil changes and maintenance in general so when I saw in the owners manual that you could go over 7000 miles between oil changes and not void your warranty I was shocked, but also intrigued
so I had an analysis done by these folks just to prove it myself.

Well I'm happy to say that that led to me testing the threshold of the Mobil 1 extended drain Synthetic after my warranty had ran out and now with my driving style and geographical location I only change my oil every 12 thousand miles and have the analysis to prove the wisdom in doing this so anyone interested in having their oil analyzed you can get free kits from Blackstone labs. They will send you a collection kit for free and then it's only $22.50 to get the analysis done. For those of you who are running an extended drain (5000 miles +) for $10.00 more they will
give you the TBN (total base number) which measures the amount of active additive left in a sample of oil.

Everything you need to read and understand your analysis is here from Bob the oil guy and by the way, Blackstone labs also will test your tranny fluid for you.

Did you guys ever look into getting the FS-2500 or maybe an Amsoil bypass filter system to extend drain intrevals even furthur, just curious as soon as I get back, in Octish I'm gonna put one in, curious to see if anyone else has already installed and if so what the results were.

I just back off a 6000 mile tour thru the Rockies with my 5er. I serviced the engine before I left. When I got home my AMSOil remote bypass was here. I drained the oil. Mailed a sample to Blackstone. Installed the remote filter and bypass filter.

I got results back and only thing that was a little elevated was the insoluables. They suggested changing filter.

After 6000 miles I will get sample again and guess...

The install was probably a 1/2 day. I had to remove the air box and pipe to turbo. The intercooler rubber pipe to turbo in order to remove the old filter. Installed the gizmo that bolted in place of the old filter. I had 3000# hyd. lines built to use instead of the lines supplied by AMSOil. I mounted the remote gizmo to the frame under passenger seat. BEWARE... The lines do vibrate. The resonated a large noise to the inside the cab. I removed the lines and used 2 pieces of water pipe insulation to cover the lines and they no longer vibrate against the floor board. Great part about this is the ease to change your oil and get to the filters.

Filter adapter part#BK-300 $273.00 included filters in cost.

Thanks, I have to say that beats the heck out of $529.00 for the FS-2500 and according to the PDF it filters better too. I think the upgraded hoses are a great idea since I tend to find myself off the beaten path at times.

The hose that came with the bypass were "air" hoses. I am sure they would be OK but I am kinda an overkill kinda guy. I did not like the idea of running down the hwy at 70 and springing a leak and barking the motor. Please the HD hdy. lines are very wear resistant.

And "yes" the 2500 is very overpriced.

I don't remember where I read it, but a few individuals with the amsoil by-pass have had bad numbers on their analysis, so I guess it all depends on your vehicle,

Here are some numbers from a guy using the FS-2500.

We have 4 trucks that are using the FS-2500 filtration system, works awesome. You are extending your oil changes to well over 10,000km and we did a bunch of oil analysis when we first installed them and the oil was still pure after 8000 km. I say if you want to save money on oil changes it is a worth while product to pick up. It will pay for itself within 2 years depending on how many km's you put on in a year
