That's funny, that happened to me too. I am going to cut a 5 gallon bucket to fit under it.

I just hold the pan up with one hand, remove the plug with the other hand and then lower the pan to the ground. But after 70,000 miles I have done a couple of changes, LOL.

I've got a bucket that leaves about 2-3" between it and the oil pan. I undo the plug and let it drop into the bucket. After the oil has drained enough so it won't splash, I fish the plug out with a magnet, clean it and get it ready to reinstall.

Fumoto oil drain plug with a nipple will cure that. Just push a hose on the nipple before you open the drain and you can direct it right into the drain pan.
