Default Filtering project

Howdy All,

Finished my filtration project and thought I would some pics

I purchased the XX kit, was working on making a similar bracket, but it would not come out this nice ... Something to be said for a stamped bracket verses vice bent The kit consists of the bracket, baldwin heads, all fittings, hoses, and filters (filters are Donaldson P550847 and P551313). BTW, gotta love the water jetted logo/URL directly in the bracket

This shows Fleetguard FS1212, then Donaldson P550847. I added extra protection from what was supplied (this truck does farm/ranch life alot) The filters are mounted as high as possible and well protected by the transfer case:

I cut the fuel line as close to the aux cab heater bracket as possible. In the future I plan to use that mount for an external pump and all the connection points will be right there:

This is the last filter before the CP3 pump (rated at 2 micron on old measurement standards, will be replaced later with a Donaldson P551313:

This is what I have installed from tank to CP3:
Fleetguard FS1212 (25 micron absolute) [may do something different later in the 15 to 20 range ...]
Donaldson P550847 (10 micron @ 99%)
Fleetguard FS43258 FS-2 (5 micron @ 98.7%)
Cat 1R-0750 (2 micron absolute)
This makes for one clean as possible beyond all belief no matter what you stick in the tank The also allows one to run a higher bio mix with the progressive water separation. Next thing to be done is start adding Fleetguard Platinum Plus to the fuel. Waiting for our local Cumming Shop to stock it. Enough of us got together and complained so the local shop will start stocking in next week.

BTW, XX advertises the P550847 filter to be 8 microns ..... its 10 at 99% according to Donaldson's own docs.

More about Platinum Plus: Platinum PlusĀ®

Cheers all.

Very nice. My concern; is does the stock pump have enough push to keep the fuel pressure high enough for sustained periods of time or over the long run? Or are you running a external pump? Sorry if you have already explained this.

Yes, I feel the stock pump does. So far, all the 1/2 day long highway runs have been good (well over 800 miles so far). Next weekend we are planning a long day run which should be about 800 miles in one shot, so more to come. I do plan to install and external pump at the cab heater bracket (have to make a plate to attach to that bracket and use the existing holes in the frame right below it). Looking at using Raptor RP100 as the pump.

Cheers.

Friends,

Just installed replacement gauge to show pressure at the CP3 pump after 4 filters. Not happy with these gauges, they leak ... argh.

So here the pic at idle:

The gauge is 0 (zero) to 15 PSI, its an oil filled mechanical gauge and at idle all the way to 3000 rpm, its reads a good steady 11 PSI.

This reading is based with big line kit installed, 4 filters ranging from 25 microns down to 2 micron and stock pump setup.

Cheers.

Are you still running the stock filter or just a hollowed out case? I read on one of the XX to take the insert out. Maybe you have a different one then the directions I read. Looks like a very neat set up. Would this make B20 work without voiding warranty?

I am still running the stock filter and using the version 2 of the case with replacement elements. That setup is rated at 5 microns. I was to remove the stock filter, then I would suggest removing the whole system and using the bypass plate. A hollowed out bowl in place of the stock filter is going to cause more problems later than cure ...

As for the warranty, I am sorry, I can not answer that. That is a decision you will have to make. I plan to keep this truck for a very long time and personally not overly concerned with the warranty as a former mechanic. No matter what, Dodge will find any excuses possibly to void your warranty. They tried with me already once and appologized in writting for their error and was while doing a oil change !

Hope that helps.

Cheers.
