I just went over 12000 miles and I've changed the oil 3 times and just had the annunciator go off telling me I need an oil change again after only 3000 miles of highway driving, WTF? I have an oil analysis from my last change that I keep forgetting to send because this just isn't right. Cummins states that the interval should be 7000 miles but if you go by the annunciator I'm not even getting half that mileage.
What are all of you 6.7L ownerz seeing for oil change interval per the overhead annunciator? I'll get that oil in the mail ASAP.

Mine has done the same thing. I believe it has something to do with duty cycle and not ecm oil analysis. At 3500 miles on my last oil change, I had my oil analyized...See results below.
Based on this, I had no need to change my oil. |

That's my understanding too but what I don't understand is that since I drive on the highway why it's coming on so early unless it's getting false readings like the error codes that have just popped up? I'll ask the Mechanic tomorrow about this and see if he can shed any light on the subject.

I had the same thing happen to me. I got the truck with 4300 miles on it, checked the oil and found it blacker than my 01 ever was at 5000 miles so I had it changed to start off fresh. At 3000 miles the annunciator came on again. An oil change was included when they removed the manifold, turbo, etc. doing diagnostics due to a P2262 code. It came on again at 3000 miles on a trip. Another oil change covered when they changed the turbo. Seems like 3000 is the magic number even though it is black the minute you start the engine after an oil change. Has anyone installed a bypass filter on one of these beasts yet? I haven't sent in a sample for analysis but when I do, I will post the results.

I just got my Blackstone report back. It said a little high on the copper and fuel was at 1.5 (up from .9), still with in range. It had just short of 5K on it when it was changed. I get mine done at the dealer using Mopar 15w40 and a Mopar filter. I just went over 13K on the truck. TBN was still in the usable range and it was suggested to go to 6K on the oil and check again.

Great news, and she's still not broke in. "As I look at the Blackstone bottle of oil sitting in the top of the tool box."

I still think it has something to do with duty cycle and total milage. We've got the normal break-in period to deal with, plus that extra pluse of fuel at or around the bottom of the power stroke for regen. I've got 15,000 miles on mine right now and the message came up after 5000 miles. I expect that interval to be longer as time goes on and my duty cycle does not change.

This is an intresting thread, I was curious about this as well, seeing as my first oil change indicator came on after about 1200 miles or so. I bought it in 08 so it had been on the lot for about 1 year, can't remember what the engine hours were looking like but I think that has a lot to do with it as well. I the computer computes hours not so much milage, maybe I'm just shootin from the hip here not sure. When I get back from this hell hole I'm gonna be getting an FS-2500 bypass on my truck they are a bit expensive but worth every penny, these filters filter down to 1 micron, full flow filters don't even come close to that, so why wouldn't you put one of these on your truck. It will exentend the life of your already long lasting Cummins!!

I have just finished my second oil change. dealer did the first I did this one. Do you need to do the turn the key and pump accelerator 3 times to reset or not. The light never came on I am just being extra cautious right now. FWIW I used the Mopar filter and Delo 400LE 15w-40. Oh yeah 5100 miles at each change.
