Default RV service changing due to economy?

I have to begin this in saying our Cedar Creek - Day Dreamer is the most well designed (to Tana's liking) and prettiest coach we have ever looked at. We have towed it for 6500 miles toward Utah and back, to Wisconsin and NY and a thousand places close by. It is still the most liked by us as any coach we have ever seen. We have met some of the nicest folks while camping in it.

Where this story begins is the first day we picked it up. We have have had very minor things to bug us to death. Not working sewer dump valves several times, leaking frig, one bad electrical wire, 2 bad converters, wall paneling tape replaced about 4 times, loose front slide, badly fit moulding on outside, etc. While in for a few repairs two months ago I took the coach by my tire man and found two badly worn tires on the driver's side. I took photos and sent them to Mr. Bradley.

I have a stack of repair sheets the size of a book. Well last year I contacted Forest River and took it in and had a very cool reception. Some of you know about that. I got a call from Mr. Bobby Bradley several months ago and he and Tom Johnson, Charlotte has gotten the ball rolling.

I am going to list what all Forest River has done to make "good faith" repairs after my warranty has expired. Yes, before you say it a lot of these should have been done earlier but were not.

Replaced and painted door to gas bottles with slight bow in door
Replaced all seam tap on paneling
Replaced converter with larger unit
Replaced and painted all moulding on exterior
Replaced both 7k axles with Dexter 8k axles
Replaced all four tires with Goodyear "G" rated tires
Replaced all four wheels
Replaced entire back window with properly colored one with tinting that was misordered at an earlier repair time
Replaced all three sewer dump valves with new type electrical switches
They are installing EquaFlex suspension on new axles at NO charge.

Tana & I are both very impressed with Mr. Bradley.

Impressive. Glad to hear you got some satisfaction from a manufacture. I too had a similar problem with a 5'er. I bought a 2004 Durango made by KZ. We had looked for several years to find a layout and a brand that we felt we could trust. The first few trips were uneventful with only a few minor 'birth defects'. The dealer here put half a** effort into doing a repair and it took 4 weeks. Now I had delt with this dealer for 10 years prior to us buying a unit from them (I handled all of thier chassis repair on coaches). A couple of more short trips and back it went for the same repairs again with the same results, poor quality repairs. This went on for almost 2 years (Bumper to bumper warranty was 2 years). Some times the unit was there for 4 to 6 weeks and I had to poke them hard to get it done so we could use it. Then the excusses started to come in, like 'The repair is too difficult, we are too busy, all of them do the same thing, you are too fussy. Well, enough was enough, I contacted the factory and they sent out a rep to see what I was complaining about. They found out! The dealer was not interested in doing warranty repairs!? The factory wanted to make it right and I was obligated to give them 1 more chance. They kept it for another 5 weeks and the rig was a mess, a hole was made in the rubber roof, the floor was worse than ever the tank gauges still were not with in 75% of accurate, the windows that were installed were the wrong ones the door still did not fit and the tires were still out of alignment. Lemon laws do not work here in NM, the factory bought me out of the unit and (Like dumb kids) we bought the same model from the same dealer in 2006, slightly customized of course to our spec. I am pleased to say the the new rig spent a total of 10 days in the shop on 2 occasions with the corporate and district service managers watching the repair work being done. We have had 4 years of (Knock on wood) trouble free operation of the new rig since. The dealer lost thier KZ franchise and they have been through 5 service managers and alot of techs in the last bunch of years too. We use the rig atleast 2 times every month and probably put 7 to 8,000 miles a year on it. PM me if you want to know the BIG national franchise that we used to deal with. It is not that units have problems, they all do, it is how the dealer takes care of the repairs that sets them apart from the rest. No we would not buy a rig from them again.

I've been pulling Forest River products for 11 years and over 150,000 miles. Rving has been in my families blood for generations. Forest River is the real deal. I had similar out of warranty situations, and have always been more than happy with the result.

In February we had a sustained cold spell where the temps got down and stayed at -8d. No moisture, just cold. I found the front cap on my 2003 Cougar had cracked in a V shape with the longest run of 3 ft. I took it to my dealer in Anthony, TX. They worked to find the repair parts; unfortunately the manufacturer no longer has the front cap. So the dealership found a local company which specializes in fiberglass repairs. It was fixed and now I need to redo a lot of the seals so I will know its waterproof. The moral of this story: never pay off the loan; we made the last payment 3 days before the cap cracked. In this case, the dealership did the actual repair correctly, but forgot to check all the other stuff which came up while they had it for the two months it took to get repairs. They did wash the trailer, which made it look better (just after a sandstorm).
