Don't forget air brakes. If you don't haul it for hire, do it for a living, contract or as part of a business, I believe you do not need a CDL for most states. If you think about it take a look on the freeway some day and look to see how many 'bus' motorhomes are out there that gross more than 26K and the 75 year old driving it (Bet that he does not have a CDL or stop at weigh stations). Your local MVD office should be able to provide you with written details on what is necessary. (You may have to ask 3 or 4 people before you get to the source).

This is how the 75 year old doesn't need a CDL for the motorhome.
A passenger or school bus, with an additional endorsement if the equipment you drive will hold more than 15 people, including the driver. I know here in Kansas you don't need to have a CDL to drive a Semi as long as it's not for hire. I drive one every year during harvest legally.

Beats me, I had to get mine when I was required as a mechanic to move trucks on private property
. Air brakes, here even if it is under 26K, for hire or commercial only though.
