Default New 6.7 cummins owner

Hey folks

I just bought an 07 ram 2500 and the dealer that I bought it from forgot to put the owners manual back in the glove box afer cleaning the truck. I'm trying to find out what the red light is in the instrument cluster that looks like a thunderbolt, because it's now staying on when the truck is running.

Hello and welcome a board !

If the truck is a diesel and its the thunderbolt with curved sides, it is Electronic Throttle Control system.

Here is a the snip for the 2008 manual:

Quote:
This light informs you of a problem with the Electronic Throttle Control system. If a problem is detected, the light will come on while the engine is running. If the light remains lit with the engine running your vehicle will usually be drivable, however, see your authorized dealer for service as soon as possible. If the light is flashing when the engine is running, immediate service is required and you may experience reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle or engine stall and your vehicle may require towing. The light will come on when the ignition is first turned on and remain on for 15 seconds as a bulb check. If the light does not come on during starting, have the system checked by an authorized dealer.
Hope that helps.

Yes I'm running the 6.7 liter cummins and that's exactly what it is, because when I lifted the hood, I noticed the cables cycling back and forth on the throttle body. I also have the Infamous P 0471 code showing up in the check engine light. Thanks for your help. Greatly Appreciated.

The throttle body has no cables ... if you are about the unit the on the passenger side sticking up from the engine, that is part of the smog system. Throttle body is on the driver side, down by the battery.

P0471 = Exhaust Pressure Sensor 1 Performance. This one is not good.

At first glance, the DPF differential pressure sensor system is having a problem. Search the forums, if memory serves correctly, I think our forum leader had a similar problem and posted a resolution.

Thanks Morbius

I was talking to a mechanic today and he told me the same thing. The cables that I was looking at were to do with the smog system. I've noticed on the forums that you can pull off the sensor and the stainless steel tube that is connected to it and soak them down with brake cleaner. Looks like this new 6.7 is sensored to death. I hope this is not going to be a bad experience for me, being my first diesel and all. I've been looking at the dodge cummins for 4 years now and I was so happy at first that I had finally got it. These forums are really helpful.

Thanks again
