Default Dead truck! Electrical problem

When I started the truck yesterday to head home from our 4th of July vacation the check gauges light came on, I noticed that the voltage was low but still in the normal range. After checking to make sure I still had a serpentine belt, fuses were not blown and all cables and connectors were still tight and connected I decided to see how far home I could get being we were 5 hours from home. Things were going good until we hit about half way home when the voltage started dropping fast and just about every light on the dash light up and it started dinging at me, fortunately there was a convienence store nearby and I made it into the parking lot. At a loss as to what to do I called the roadside assistance since the truck only has 11,000 miles on it. I knew this wasn't going to be easy to work out since I was towing a trailer, and it was a Sunday. Apparently the towing company for the area didn't have a truck that could haul the truck and pull the trailer and Dodge won't pay for a seperate trailer tow which would have cost me about $500 to get home. Still over two hours from home and not having many friends or family that have a vehicle capable of towing my stress level was getting pretty high. My dad also has a Dodge truck but he just got out of the hospital on Friday and wasn't in any shape to come help me out, and Mom needed to stay with him. I was finally able to get a hold of my brother in law who was able to use my Dad's truck to come rescue us and the trailer, my five hour drive turned into a 10 hour trip and my truck is at a dealership 2 1/2 hours from home. The tow truck driver said he just towed another 08 2500 the day before. I'm starting to wonder if I did the right thing trading in my 03.

My first thought was a loose battery cable but you said they were fine so all I can say is "weird!"

Let us know what you find out.

I did a search on other Dodge CTD websites and did not find anything. Was the low charge reading close to the low when the fuel heater cycles on a cold engine?? Sounds like a programming or hardware error. Sometings a simple key on/key off can correct it. Let us know what you find.

It turns out there was a loose cable -I'm not sure how I missed it. I'm glad it was simple fix - now I just have to spend a couple hours going to get my truck back.

Climbed into mine on Sunday to take it to the store. Had not driven it since I got it back for 245A code. Anyhow no start! Dead battery? HUMMMM Put the charger on it and a few hours later it starts right up. So off I go for a drive and the CEL is on AGAIN! Dropped it at the dealer and he tells me that one of the batteries has a bad cell. Oh well new battery and a new radio finally. Two CEL's within 100 miles has me worried too.

I went to start my 09 after sitting for 12 days and had a totally dead truck. Put the truck on charge and returned 3 hours later to find it was still dead. Checked voltage and had less than 1 volt. Removed both batteries and went to the Interstate battery store and he found one had a bad cell and one was in need of a charge. Needless to say, bought 2 new 850 cca mega-tron batteries because I figured it was only a matter of time before the one in need of a charge would fail. Before I went to buy replacements, I called the dealer and they would not test the batteries without the truck and wanted to send a tow truck to haul it in. I needed the truck that day and decided to replace them on my own. Is there someone at Dodge I could contact to inquire about the possibilty of a reimbursement for the bad battery? I still have both batteries and a printout that shows the bad cell diagnosis. Installed new batteries, started the engine, checked voltage (at idle it was 14.31) and the truck runs great.

I'd just take the bad battery along with the readout to your dealership and see what they say.

Default Low Voltage

Headed to work and noticed low voltage. Tested the alternator and as luck wouldn't have it...I need a new one. Come to find out they are pretty rare unless I want to pay the dealer to find one and install it. I'm still looking for one but might get one from the junk yard to get by. Any suggestions?
