Hi,

I am in the market for a 08-09 3500 and joined to do some research and get some opinions before i make my purchase. I have heard all the horror stories about the 6.7 and figured they could all be true. I work on many of these engines at my place of business and we haven't seen many issues that go along with the complaints i have heard. The occasional EGR valve, egr cooler, and rarely the DPF. Typically the DPF is driver abuse in our cases. Can anyone share experiences or give advise for a potential cummins owner?

A little more info, at the moment we are looking for a 08-09 3500 mega cab 4x4 for cross country trips and some moderate towing/hauling, willing to get an 06 with a 5.9 cummins but perfer a newer truck than that.

Thanks in advance Chris

I bought an 07.5 2500 with the 6.7L and I have not had any problems with it at all. It had 68K on the odometer. Pulls my horses and anything else I hook up to it without even trying....

When not hauling anything and at highway speeds of 77-82mpg I see 15-17mpg, and only have a Cold Air Intake on it...Now if I cut it back to 70-75 i would probably see a steady 17-19mpg....But I like to get where I am going, and have a heavy foot....LOL

No issues thus far, and loving it.....hope it helps some...

I have an 08 2500 6.7 4x4. Had to have the turbo replaced at about 65,000 and the egr valve replaced at around 90,000. I hated how dirty the engine oil got as soon as it was changed with the egr going back through the engine. I installed the XRT Pro tuner with a dpf delete and deleted the egr. Running on the mild tune and you can't believe the performance. The oil stays clear on the dipstick even after 2500 miles after the oil change. I now get 23-25 highway and 18-21 around town.

Should have done this sooner. Even with the deletes their is virtually no smoke when you accelerate hard.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I understand the issue with dirty oil, we get high soot reports back from our oil sample labs all the time. I had considered doing an egr and dpf delete as soon as i bring the truck home. My only concern with that is i believe our county will require emission testing in 2014. With my older F-250 i dont have to have emissions done because its considered a farm vehicle or some crap like that. I dont know if the newer vehicles will be the same or if i will have to. I'm sure removing those items will make it fail lol.
