Default New to Diesel and 6.7L Turbo

Hello all! Firstly, let point out that I am new to owning a diesel (2007 2500 6.7L Laramie MegaCab). Therefore, I come to gain insight and solid information from all you experts who have "been there, done that". I got a heck of a deal on this truck and will be using it to pull our 40' fifth wheel (15,500 Lbs). So far the truck is awesome and I'm still amazed at how quite it runs. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone out there can help me or lead me in the right direction:

1) The dealer only had one key, where/how is a good place to get a 2nd/3rd?
2) The truck did not come with the Navigation DVD, where can I get one. According to the manual the disc is very specific and states that another disc will not work. I looked on eBay and found several ranging from $55 to $240. Has anyone had any luck with any eBay discs?

I would like to avoid having to go to the dealership if there's an alternate method to get these items without large dealership costs.

You expert advisement is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

CowboyDuarte

Hey Cowboy,

You can key blanks here:

http://www.michaelhyde.com/product_p...07-rmt-key.htm

Much cheaper than the dealers.

Someone else will have to jump in with the NAV cd info, I do not have a nav unit my truck and did not want one. I use a garmin nuvi unit and it moves from truck to truck to car

Cheers,
Roberto

Welcome Cowboy, there are a lot of smart people here that can help.
I with Morbius I use a Garmin as well.
I talked to a locksmith about an extra key to open the door if I locked the chipped key inside, that option is not expensive.
As far as your trailer, I have a feeling you might get a lecture on its weight.

Roberto, thanks for the replies. Regarding the blanks, it appears from what I'm reading, that I will still need to go see the dealer to program the blanks. I only have one key and it takes two to program another.

jamespi, the trailer unloaded is actually only 11,800. I know that I'm on the edge for the towing capacity of this truck, therefore I will never load the fiver to it's max rating. I also plan on adding extras to the truck to make it better suited for towing. Which is another topic I will be looking into..."towing capability enhancements".

Thanks again!

Welcome! I also can't help you with the Nav but I will do some research and see what I can find out. I wonder why the dealership you bought it from couldn't have just used one from a new truck? Oh well off to read.

Cowboy, I am not judging you. I been told I don’t have enough truck for my trailer. I have a 35’ 5th wheel that weighs 9,200# dry and 12,100# GVWR. I am good when it comes to GCWR under 20,000# and GAWR under 6,010# but the truck has a GVWR of 9,000# which gives me a carry capacity of 1,968# and my pin weight is 2,300#.
So as you see I am on the edge as well. It seems to be able to handle the trailer with no problems and the engine brake is a great plus. I did put airbags and a compressor on the truck. Like you said; do some mods and never overloa it.
