I have the 6.7 Cummins and I have run the DPF delete system and also used the Smarty Programmer. I can only turn the programmer up to +60 horse because my stock clutch which is in a 6 speed manual is slipping. Any suggestions to solve this issue? Also is this safe to run on these engines?

I use the EB at all times with no problems. It really gets aggressive in TOW/Haul mode. I kind of like that, it lets me know it's working and of course it sounds great. When I had the dealer turn on the fast idle feature I asked if they could turn on the EB at start as well. When he was done he said "There you go, fast idle feature and EB on at start are both enabled." The fast idle was all I ended up with but I plan on asking again the next time I go in since this guy thought he could do it.
Would someone please explain the Turbo Sliding Nozzel Ring to me? |

Tring to learn a little bit of something about the Cummins 6.7 engine,it is getting time to look for a new truck and I thought I would give Dodge another look as the new HD's are the size and have the ablity to tow the weight I am towing. Also the new crew cabs are very nice looking and the doors are alot better than the older models.. "bigger"
Was wondering about fuel mileage, and how the engine performed. Thanks |

Welcome to the forum! Glad to have you here. I can only speak for myself, I love this truck. Normal minor issues, all of them so far have been resolved quickly. I have not had any of the 'normal' turbo codes or issues, I think mainly because of the way I drive the truck. Tow hard and regularly, service alot and washing it once in a while doesn't hurt much either. The mileage possibly could be better, but when it comes down to the brass tacks of things it is not too bad, I average 9 to 14 when towing, and 13 to 17 intown, open roads with no trailer behind me I have gotten 21 for a days worth of driving here in the desert South West. The 96 would get 10 on a good day with not trailer and as low as 4 with a heavy load, it still is a whole lot of fun to drive though. I have the Quad cab and I sure do like it, The long bed is really a must for me so that put the MEGA cab out of the running. I am sort of rethinking the bed length thing some though.

Hey guys, The jake brake system acted bazoo while my wife was returning from a 4 hour road trip the other day on our 2008 Ram 3500 with the 6.7.
around hour 3 of the 5 hour drive the jake brake would kick in (without the dash toggle being on) and actually try to retard her acceleration say when she was pulling out from a stop light or dringing slow through a town. So esentially it was acting opposite form its intended use - actually working against trying to accelerate and she would have to continue to stomp on the pedal to power through the restriction coming on by the jake brake. Tried turning the botton on and off, no retrictions at the pedal, etc. Never had this problem before - have about 34,000 on it - great majority is highway miles and just returned last week from aur annual cross country run of about 4,500 miles round trip without any problems. Never got a diagnostic code referenced in other forums for "dirty or sooty" turbo. We run so little highway miles that I don't think we have any problem getting the engine to "cook" out anything. Maybe the "slides" on the turbo that are part of this VGT system were getting stuck or something. It became so severe while driving through one of the last towns on her trip that she almost had to pull over and call in a tow. Drove it the next day for half an hour without it recurring. Anyone ever have this or any ideas???? |
