Now that I finally got my EGT thermocouple installed and had a chance to drive my 100 mile route with the turbo timer operating last night I've come to the conclusion that without it I would have seriously shortened the life of the Turbocharger. Even at 30 mph's and then pulling into a parking lot and stopping (Unloaded) there were times that the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) was well over 650 degree F.
I remember a time back in January when I was driving out on the highway at 3AM on my way home and this State Trooper pulled me over because I had touched the outside line (JUst being nosey) and I was so hacked off that I shut the truck off when I stopped. I now know that at 70 MPH the EGT is around 1000 degrees F (1200 degrees when Regenerating the DPF), Not a good thing. So even if you don't get a programmer I highly suggest a Turbo Timer and a EGT read out of some kind for the longevity of your Cummins Turbocharger.

I'll do that tonight. I sent an E-mail to Cummins asking them what was the suggested EGT for shut down but haven't heard back and while I was on their site I discovered that the Chassis cab has a turbo timer operated by the ECU, stock. Go figure?
As for the Edge all I did the last 2 nights is play with and compare the stock and mileage (Level 1) settings and there's a 1.7+ MPG difference between stock and level 1 per the little overhead annunciator. Right now at 70 MPH it's showing 16.7 MPH and in town it's been up over 18MPH. ( I have the 4.10 rear end)

Is level 1 the recommended towing position?? What are you getting towing, how much weight and what is the trailer configuration??
I'm getting 15 mpg overall in light stop and go driving. The Superchip programmer is set at extreme (not while towing). No difference in egt from the towing position unless I get on it. I like the short burst, look of unbelief, and set you back in your seat as this animal does her thing. I don't go fast but I sure like quick.
