Cool My observations on regen.

Hello again. Here are my observations on regen with my driving style.
I normally drive about 17 miles to work with 6 lights which I usually catch red so I don't go more than a few miles without a stop. If it is one of the long lights, I use idle up. When I get to town I do a lot of stop and go up to 35-40 mph for short distances. Total commute about 40-50 miles/day. I have never had the annunciator chime or tell me about my DPF status. Occasionally I do smell something akin to my wife's self cleaning oven even when putting around town. I suspect this is a sign of a regen but it doesn't seem to happen very often. I know how my 01 with a 6 speed manual used to smoke if I lugged it so I drive my 08 with a light foot when lugging around and if I have to I drop down into 5th to keep the soot down and try to prevent any more regens than necessary. I don't roll into the throttle until I am moving and the turbo has had a chance to spool up also to prevent making soot. Squid, I was trying to drive with the exhaust brake on all the time like my tech and good friend recommended but managed to drive my mileage down to about 13.4 mpg. Won't make that mistake again. With occasional use of the EB I got 16.5 mpg with the combined driving described above. I just had a O2 sensor failure covered under warranty. The tech cleaned the good one and replaced the sensor that failed. The 16.5 mpg was recorded this week right after the sensor service. I don't know how much that might have had to do with it but this tank is about 1 mpg better than I have seen since I bought the truck and the mileage shown on the overhead was only about .3 mpg off. I know this is long winded but hopefully it will add to our knowledge base and we can figure out what gets mileage out of these beasts and what doesn't.

Default idle up?

how do you idle up? I've asked my dealer about it and they keep telling me that there is no high idle for the 6.7 unless the ecu wants to do it on its own. It'll run high all winter when its below -20 but I have no control. Help?

The high idle feature CAN be activated by the dealer. It works off the cruise control through the ECU. Good or smart dealers in this area (it gets down to -40C here in winter) activate this feature as part of their PDI. I never let my truck idle for more than 30 seconds to a minute without engaging the high idle, unless I am in traffic. When it is colder than 0 C, I start it and let it run on high idle for 5 to 10 minutes before driving. Dealers like the one mentioned above are the ones giving these trucks a bad name.

Default high idle

i was reafing around in other foroms and i found out how to instruct the dealer on how to enable the high idle. i played dumb for the first 2 techs that kept telling me that there was no such feature. after i had enough fun, I instructed the diesel tech on where to find the PTO idle feature in the starscan. if i could have taken a picture of their faces when they found it......on a better note, i ghot a free oil change for their retardness.....gotta love the dealership

High Idle can also be activated through the Superchips tuner

When mine goes into regen (nothing displayed overhead) , the pyro will jump up about 3 hundred degrees and then cool back down when complete.

You won't get a message when it's in regeneration. The only way to tell is if you have a Exhaust Gas Temp (EGT) Gauge because the temp will rise. When Towing it may never go into a forced regeneration but rather a passive regeneration is taking place because when loaded the EGT is already hot enough to clean the DPF. As for the CCV I found out early that if you wait for the warning on the display you waited to long to change it. Cummins 6.7L Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) Filter Change

Here's a few links on the DPF and regeneration.

I have not seen any new postings on this, what was the help for this? This sounds like the problem i am having with the rescue truck. No room to do a reg. On our town, and it's getting stuck in this mode. Any way to ge this programed to do this with a high idle like the internationals?
