Default Cummins 6.7 liter See Dealer Now Service Soon

I just purchased a 2008 2500 6.7 liter dodge diesel. I believe most of the emissions were cut out, I am new to the truck and diesel so have no idea what I am looking at. I took it to a certified mechanic and he said nothing was wrong with the truck except the exhaust emissions were cut out except for the muffler. I am guessing that the truck is tuned because it is pushing 14lbs. of boost at idle. The mechanic said the same, and also said it wouldn't run right without a tune done with the exhaust the way it was. I was wondering if anyone else had something to say about this. I have alot more questions to ask about Biodiesel and running cooking oil in my truck. I am all about saving money on fuel. Could someone please give me some help as in.

1. What do I need to do to get rid of the "See Dealer now, Service Soon".
2. Run cooking oil or Biodiesel
3. Get better milage than 18mpg.

P.S. There is no light coming on the dash that says service engine, nor on the computer that the mechanic hooked up to it.

As for the boost that sure is a lot since at idle my edge shows 0. How are you seeing this?

By the way I use to live in Destin and work at Eglin for Boeing.

Like Squid said re the CCV filter.
The boost should be 0 at idle or at least very close. If you are running an auxiliary gauge, I would think that the gauge boost tube is plugged with soot, so the gauge won't zero. If it's a mechanical gauge it could also be a jammed gauge mechanism.
