I have a 2007 3500 6-speed auto with a dump body. The exhaust brake started working intermittenly at the same time the check engine light came on. With only 8500 miles the turbo needed to be replaced. That fixed the engine light, but not the brake. After 3 weeks at the dealer, they had no idea why the brake wouldn't work, so they changed the computer. Still not working. After 2 more weeks of having no solution, they came back to me and said that the 2007 had a very light exhaust brake and that it was really working. I know it is not working having driven the truck for 4 years. I know how it felt and sounded when working. I have had 2 deisel mechanics drive the truck and say it is not working AT ALL! Both the dealer and Dodge have washed their hands of this even though it is still under warranty... ANY THOUGHTS OR HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Bud you need to take it to a different dealership. There's no way you can't hear and feel the exhaust brake on our trucks so this tells me the dealership probably doesn't have a certified/trained Cummins tech.

I have an appointment to bring it to another dealer, but since the first dealer already had a Dodge tech and Cummins tech (So they claim) come in to look at it, will Dodge do anything differently this time. I'm sure there is only one Dodge tech for this area, so the same guy will just come back and wash his hands of it again.

Show them paperwork and receipts that you may have. That way the know what has already been done, and dont have to go through it again. If you have warranty, then it shouldnt matter which dealership you go to. But the more this new shop knows, the less they have to hunt and peck and what not, but then again, they may have a top notch guy over there that can get you squared away in no time, cause he is a good mechanic, no someone just collecting a paycheck. |

Here is the latest..... Took the truck to 2 other Dodge dealers, both drove the trunk and confirmed that the exhaust brake is not working. Both dealers also said they won't work on it since another dealer has already worked on it. WTF! This may be my last Dodge!

Dont let the dealers ruin your experience, take it BACK to the dealership you bought it from, let them know you took it to two other dealers, and that they BOTH said, Brake is INOP, and they need to fix it, as it should be under warranty.
If not, tell them you will have them contacted by a lawyer. See if that get's any eyebrows raised. |
