Default Typical Issues

Hey guys, I am new to the site, but looking forward to gaining some knowledge and understanding of the typical issues with the 6.7 liter dodge diesel. I own a 2007 completely stock mega cab 4x4 at 41000 with the 6.7 engine and manual 6 speed trany, and guess what its in the shop!! The p2262 code, i've heard that its a pretty typical issue, and man what a battle it has been with the dealership proceeding with warranty, but i am looking for some advice on what would help prevent the turbo from getting sooted up. I have read up on some of the things you can do with the dpf-delete kit, but i would really like some insite from someone who has installed one on there truck, and or anything that will help me prevent these issues. The other concern is being street legal with all the laws of texas and new emmisions there are these days. I here that it hasn't changed for diesels yet, but if it does i could only imagine the fines.

Any advice is better then none, Thank to all of you that are here to assist with your knowledge

Make sure they do the J35 recall. The other thing is make sure you actually drive the crap out of the thing. If you're not towing then you need to stomp on her to create boost which will move the sliding Vane on the turbo thus desooting it.

Here's how the Turbo works which should help you understand what's going on. I haven't seen that code in over a year and I still have the original Turbo. Cummins 6.7L Turbocharger Information

The Chart is very helpful, on the cool down chart, I see that there is stop and go with no load, allow 1 minute to cool down, would that be considered a 38.7 mile trip down the highway in which I drive one way to work and 7 miles of it I fight traffic for bout 20 minutes continuos stop and go? I appreciate all your advice. So is your truck stock, or what do you have done to yours as far as aftermarket that helped you notice a difference. Is your exhaust factory with the dpf and resinator, and catilic conv.

buckshot; welcome to the group. I think the last 20 minutes are stop and go, so 1 minute of cool down should be just fine. Since my wife drives the truck regularly, explaining how and why and having her actually do it... well you know the rest of the story. I let mine cool down after a tough pull, usually on high idle (1200 rpm) for a few, I watch the EGT gauge when coming into a rest area too, sometimes we are in sort aof a hurry to bail from the truck. I do not endorse leaving the truck running with no one inside, so we shut it down, sometimes its pretty hot. Mine is stock with all of the emmissions stuff operational including the EGR. I have been told that rpm's off idle with all of the new flashes the EGR is not operational, this would be park brake set (manual trans) or in park, foot off of the brake and the engine running abouve 1100 rpm the sooting is at net zero and the EGR is closed. I also keep the EB ON and you can hear it load up and the EGT comes up to about 600*. I have (knock on wood) not seen a p2262 code. I however do a reasonable amount of towing, 11K and usually 2 times a month for 150 to 300 miles depending on my schedule. Good luck with the repair, sort of hope they just replace the turbo instead of cleaning it and then replacing it later.

Well, I was hoping they would change the turbo myself, but from what I hear, it's pretty typical to drill into the turbo then clean it out and tap a bolt into it so that if it has to be done again, it's easy access for the dealer. I have also been told that on all the new 2010s and up come stock from the factory with a hole tapped into them for that purpose. Well hopefully i can have this resolved in a timely manner, I really need my truck back!! I am fixing to look into a intake and from the looks of it the volant looks pretty legite. As far as programers and such, will it void my warranty to have one put on or is there some out there that are non detectable that can be removed if I have to take her back to the shop. Also if I do choose to put a programmer in her, should i go ahead and install additional guages for turbo and so on.
