Congrats on the new truck! Someone else will have to help you with the deletes/disables since after 70,000 miles I'm still running all the EPA stuff.

If the truck is used and handled correctly, the smog stuff is no issues. I use my truck as a daily driver, 6 miles each way M-F and 800 miles on the weekend with no issues and all smog in place. I am at 25K miles currently.

38K with all of the smog stuff intact here, I run about 300 miles a week and tow 11K aleast once a month. It helps to give it a good work out every now and again.
congrats and good luck.

Thanks for the feed back....My first trip was 3,000 miles from nevada to utalh, colorado (11,000 ft passes) new mexico and home. Encountered alot of weather and headwinds. With my trailer loaded and also the pickup I averaged 10.5 mpg and that was starting with 700 miles on the pickup. Plenty of power. My wife drives a particular section going north out of Las Vegas on 95. She couldn't believe that she could just leave the truck on Cruise and never had to shift out of 6th. So far so good.

welcome and hope you like the truck, mine is a 6spd manual, I drive 15 miles to work and haul up to 11,000lbs. (28ft. car hauler) several times a year ,I have 23,000 miles on it and all the factory emissions stuff is still hooked up and functioning as its supposed to. the only time I would have had to down shift it was hauling fully loaded at the top of a big hill it lost a couple mph with the cruise on and would have kept the few mph if I would have down shifted to 5th, but other than that it has had enough power stock to do the work and they realy like to be worked , I keep the revs. up and run with the exhaust brake on, and don't plan on changing anything on it till after warranty / if I have problems ,but it don't seem like its going to have many issues scince I do maint. on time ,and work the thing often enough.

Thanks for the information.. I travel a lot over the high sierras and the exhaust brake is one of the best features.

Came back from Sacramento last Sunday it seems with this pickup hauling my Toy hauler is much less stressful.

Does the overhead display when you go into regen. I now have close to 6,000 miles and I have never seen any indication of a regen.

Thanks,

Bill

it will not say when its in regen I wish it did,and I can hardly ever tell when mine is in regen ,once in a while on longer trips I can catch it while watching the average mpg (it will drop a lot from normal) after market gauges like the edge will tell you if you get them , I have not got that far yet with mine.. but look through the site there is a ton of good info on here.

I have a 2007 Ram Quadcab 2500 6.7. We purchased it used about a year ago, it has 30,000 miles on it. It's a 6 speed automatic, 2 wheel drive, and 3.73 rear gear. We use it as a daily driver and pull our 10500 lb. 5th wheel to Florida for the winter. Last week we were on a 400 mile trip pulling the 5th wheel, at about 300 miles it began to loose power and then set a check engine light, but I eventually got home with it. Took it to dealer the next day, he found trouble codes P1451 & P242f. He ordered parts, yesterday he relpace Diesel Particulate Filter and cleaned EGR system, and cleared the codes. It seems to be running okay. On the Interstate it tows the 5th wheel at 65 mph in 6th speed o/d on cruise control at 1250 rpms. My question is: should the highway RPM's be higher to aide in keeping the exhaust clean? If so, what would be adequate RPM with out wreaking havoc on fuel mileage? Also, will the 6 speed automatic hold up to being run long distance in a lower gear? Thanks for your help.

1250 rpm is way too low for that kind of load at that speed. The 6.7L engine works best around 2100 rpm, that is what Cummin's list as the best efficient / sweet spot. You need to get the rpm's up, low rpm and high loads will load up the DPF. With a 3.73 rear end, you need to drop the overdrive and think about being in 5th. As for mileage, sorry, but when you are pulling loads, mileage is kinda out the door.

Can the tranny handle a lower gear for a long period of time ? Yes, just watch the tranny temp. You may want to consider a 4.10 rear end, it will place you in the rpm range that will be ideal. However, a 4.10 rear end will lower your mileage overall.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.
