Default New member with questions

Hi I am a new member and I'm about to purchase a 2007 Ram 2500 6.7L Mega Cab. Is there anything I should look out for? I've checked the VIN on a couple recall query resources posted on the site and i've only found DASH PANEL and dealer said that was a 20 mins install for a heat shield. Do you guys have any tool for complete VIN checks on all maintenance done? I'm switching over from a Ford sick.0 and there was an OASIS report you could get for it.

Also I plan on doing a EGR delete and DPF delete when I get it. Would there be any additional steps for the 60k mile major emissions servicing that is supposed to be done? I think I read that the CCV filter still needs to be replaced, is that correct?

Thanks and hopefully i'll be an active member on this forum with my truck

At 67K miles it is also recommended to clean the egr valve. If you don't do the delete you really need to consider this as well.

Welcome

Yes I did this already thanks. I have one small recall for a Dash Panel (heatshield install between the power plant and the firewall).

Does anyone have a resource for noobies learning about the 6.7L? How the emissions work, air flow, etc.

Thanks

Thank you for the welcome to the forum. Aren't there multiple parts serviced at the 67k mile servicing?

Default Rear Differential service

Hello All, I have 16,000 miles on a new Laramie 2500 4X4, and the manual said to replace the rear dif. fluid at 15,000. I have never had too replace this fluid in any other truck at this frequency. Has anyone had any problems going 30 or 45,000, which is what I am more accustomed too? If it is a must, what would you recommend as the best aftermarket dif. cover? I had a Mag-Hytec on my Ford and the drain plug was great, but would certainly be a must on this Ram. Thanks, Bill

This place is packed with all the info you'll need to learn about your 6.7L, just do a search or go to the applicable forum.

A simple search with the word emissions produced the following.

Cummins 6.7L Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV)
Cummins Particulate Filter
6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel Basics
Dodge Ram Chassis Cab Recommended Fluids and Filters.
Cummins 6.7L Information
Cummins 6.7L Evaporative Emissions Operation

Happy reading!

Welcome. I bought an 08 2500 last year. Since that time I have learned, and learned and learned. Much of what I have learned has come from this site. Let me share some things.
Tires: Too late I found out that the 'new tires' on the truck were not 10-ply necessary for the weight of this vehicle.
Shocks: Tend to wear quickly...have them checked.
Ball joints: Same as above.
Steve White Motors is a good place to start to buy the kit to door the EGR service. One thing I can say is to soak the EGR filter and then soak it again then rinse it lots.
Pay attention to the Cargo Light. They have a tendency to leak. It is worth the 15 minutes to check for moisture inside the cab.
Buy an aftermarket air intake. That big Cummins needs air. You will have to live with the noise of the turbo since you will be taking out the baffle. Its okay, diesels are supposed to sound loud and ominous. Keeps the city folk in the city.
Read lots, take little advice and make your own decision.
I am offering 'food for thought'...not advice.

Good Luck
Dave

When I pulled the cover on mine at 10,000 KMs the oil was quite dirty. I suspect that this was because of the gear type LSD breaking in. The front dif oil was much cleaner. After the initial change, the diff oil in my truck has remained clean. I don't think that it would hurt to extend the diff drain interval after drain #1, providing the truck does not do any heavy towing.
It is not necessary to run LSD additive in the AAM LSD diffs, at least according to the manual. But I have found that additive eliminates a shudder in the drive train that was originally thought to be transmission shudder. Although there are no clutches in the AAM LSD axels, there are brake pads or buttons on the ends of the inside if the diff case which were causing the shudder in my case. The addition of the Mopar LSD additive stopped the shudder. It should be noted that I run 75-140 gear oil for towing.
