Default New on here

Hello all, I am new to this place and also the new owner of a brand new 6.7 cummins h.o. I am really hoping that I made the right choice with my diesel.

Haven't owned a diesel since the late 90's and have tried to get the best one out there. Anything I should do to get the best out of my truck.

Maintenance and now how you drive are definitely more critical than pre 06 diesels.

Really this seems crazy now you buy a $50,000 plus truck and you can't let it idle and you really are much better not to do in town driving and ultimately because of pollution devices you burn more fuel. Because they recirculate exhaust gases now you are most contanminating oil more quickly and most likely reduing engine life. And because of the dpf filter you use more fuel to reduce particulate matter.

Every one here will tell you to drive the hell out of it which reduces fuel mileage further and who knows what else. What happened to for every pound of fuel you burn you exhaust one pound of exhaust.

I am lucky as I use my truck for business and only use it for towing a 5th wheel. No in town driving to speak of and yes I use the heck out of my truck yet at 36,000 miles the turbo had to be replaced. Maybe it was just a bad turbo.

I do love the power the truck generates and it tows beautifully with decent mileage but I am hoping that there is a diffent direction for pollution control so our trucks can be more user friendly and more efficient.

I think Detroit as usual is headed into more horsepower and torque ratings and forgetting that this summer we will likely see fuel prices over $5.

So for the time being remember don't idle your truck, drive the hell out of it, Change the fuel filter every 10,000 miles, Change oil and filter regulary, Change cccv filter every 30,000 miles and try not to do short trips.

Welcome!

I too work my truck so after the initial troubles in late 07 and early 08 before they got the software tweaked the engine has been great. Now the front end is a different story, LOL.

Welcome aboard! I drive mine daily, 15 miles one way to work, tow heavy when ever I get the chance, 77,000 miles with all of the factory stuff on, intact and operational, no issue to speak of on my end, love this truck! I am glad I don't have one of the 'other guys' trucks with Urea additives though, it's a PITA.
