Congrats on the new truck and good deal , and welcome . They are right about how you use this thing ..... I have a manual trans. so I am a little different than some of the others but I: shift at higher rpms, (2,700 to in redline when possible), run the exhaust brake from just after start up till just before shut down, never let it idle for long periods of time, but do let it idle a few mins. to cool down before shut down, and drag 9,000lbs. to 11,000lbs. around with it when ever I get a chance... the thing loves to be worked and I don't know about the others but I have had no problems running it fairly hard most of the time, kinda like an old big block muscle car...It may break some thing some day but it seems to like it better than just creeping along....best of luck again...

Your welcome john, Im sure you and the horses will love the new truck! Hope you enjoy the site, Squid has a ton of very good info on these trucks ,and as time goes on it gets even better,(this engine hasn't been out that long...) Im sure this site is the reason I have had no issues with my trucks dpf/emissions/exh. and no trouble codes, I dont even know when my trucks doing a re-gen, with 15,500 miles on it, its had its share of daily transportation ,several short trips, and a few long ones. I haven't done any mods yet but will as soon as time and money permit. a cold air intake , getting rid of the muffler,an edge/juice and a oil by pass filter are all that is planed? I would like a little more power ,but mainly want to increase fuel mileage (its not bad now),and to see the egts and other info. I run only ultra low sulfur diesel with no bio in it, and do oil and all filter changes on time and so far its the greatest! It was a learning curve for me ,as I hadn't owned a diesel in a while (had a new 1992 with a 5.9 cummins ) things have changed a lot scince then, mostly for the better.... well don't want to "rattle-on" ,best of luck.
