Question Knocking feel in steering wheel and throttle pedal

I just recently traded for a used 2008 Ram 6.7L Laramie quad cab 4wd with 76000 miles on it. This is my 4th Dodge Cummins, first used truck. My last truck was a 2006 with a 6 speed standard that I loved but my wife could not handle the manual tranny. So with great trepidation I traded for a post '06 model and am already getting a bad feeling about this truck. I have a knocking feel that transmits through both the steering wheel and the throttle pedal and I can also hear an audible knocking noise. I checked the ball joints and both uppers had some slack though within state inspection limits. I went ahead and had all of the ball joints replaced and replaced the right front axle U joint as it was seizing up. The left one had already been replaced. I thought this cured the problem but the knocking is still there, albeit not as bad. I have gone over all steering linkage components and with the possible exception of a slight amount of slack in the steering gear box, can not find anything remotely loose. Is anyone else experiencing this and if so have you found any remedies? Thanks.

What kind of tires are you running? I had the Hankook tires make a thumping sound on uneven pavement that drove me crazy.

Wheel bearing maybe? My 99 did something similar, The bearing did not show signs of play or being bad on the truck but when I pulled it apart to fix an axel joint, I found it.

If you had excess play in your suspension (ball joints), your tires could be out of round. Did you try rotating the tires front to back?

I bought my '08 used from an Ebay dealer out of Texas. Less miles than yours (29,000), but still a bit beat up in places. Fortunately, it seems to be fine mechanically. Underneath, I am finding large pockets of fine silt like dirt inside body panels and crossmembers! I know the original title was registered in one of those southern "A" states, Alabama or Arkansas, can't remeber which? I know it was used as a truck, but so far, it's all good, and I'm lovin' it!
Are we allowed to use the "L" word when talking about our trucks?

None of the above. However, I have found a little bit of slack in the steering linkage between the box and the firewall. I am suspecting this because it seems to occur going down a smooth road when the suspension is slightly moving up and down. Anybody had to replace this linkage?
