It does sound like there may be an issue else were in the system for sure. As far as I know it is built in software in all of the 6.7l's, all that is required is to activate that software portion. I think C&C's are different, EB on at startup and high idle enable is on from the factory. Good luck, It may take another attempt at reprograming. I have heard of 'flashes and activations' not finishing the install on the first attempt. I work on CAT earth moving equipment and some times I may have to 're-flash' or cycle (perameter on-off-on) the software several times to get it to stay installed.

Fast idle from what I remember does not work on all manual transmission setups. There is something about a sensor that needs to be "jumpered" or something like that. I do not remember if that is a sensor on the tranny for manual or the sensor plug that goes to the automatic which is not used on manual and their is a jumper plug in it. Bottom line, in a auto, the cummins computer knows the tranny is in park, on manual it knows nothing or getting nothing back.

When I get a chance this weekend, I will looks the shop books. It should be on the CD based manuals.

Cheers,
Roberto

cool I would like to know what it is, if any one finds out? as it seems like it would be a very handy feature, with winter around the corner it would be nice to have it working.

Finally found it ! For once I did not forget

Here you go,

First option to look at:

high idle - Page 10 - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum

Second more detailed and required Cummins part:

high idle - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum

Hope that helps !

Cheers,

Anybody done the 1st option listed above? I think I found the wire green with an orange stripe? Seems to have a plactic or some sort of non metal covering. Would need to be removed I suppose in order to ground. For north texas it was cold this morning 20ish degrees. High idle would come in handy. Also noticed this morning while moving the truck the voltage meter was fluctuating between the normal range and almost down to 8, anyone else seem this?
Thanks, Patrick

running the exhaust brake gets the engine up to operating temp. quicker, and helps keep the exhaust temps up so there is less soot getting built up in the entire system.(turbo, egr, dpf, etc.) as for the Amsoil, I have not used it ,but some people llike it ,as well as other company's products, my opinion on it would be to watch what adatives went into the engine as it is a "sealed" engine ,so what ever is in the engine, the fumes will go through the emission equipment and could shorten the life of O2 sensors, egr, turbo, and exhaust after treatment components, I feel the same way about fuel adatives as they may cause similar isues, I do like the idea of a bypass oil filter system like those from McLain and Amsoil, they remove soot and contaminants from the oil and look like a good way to keep things protected, the same for fuel system filters like the ones from gdp, and cummins, with the fine injector nozzels and high fuel pressures the fuel system needs to be protected as well. I have not got the systems on my truck yet ,but as soon as I can buy them ,the McLain and gdp systems will go on mine....

Well I hooked up the ground wire today for my pto/fast idle (green wire with orange stripe) I already had the pto/fast idle function enabled (turned on ) in the ecm at the dealer several months back , and it works like a champ!!! the owners manual tells about it on like page 279,but lists it for automatic trans. equiped trucks only,I know dodge must have been fearing law suits from people accidentaly having a manual trans. truck put in gear with that function "on" and decided it was to much of a risk for them??? ,but I felt that scince these trucks are not supposed to idle for long periods of time (they even store the percentage of time it idles in the ecm) that they sould have a way for ALL of them to be able to be brought up off idle. even the demo video for the 08 super duty brags that their truck can idle all day (8hrs.) with out isues because they know these trucks are used for working out of, and on job sites.... I know I don't want to freeze in the winter or over heat in summer because my truck can't sit and idle... and now with some of the wierd laws that continue to come out of cali. trucks may not be allowed to idle much from now on?, but until they come and re-brain wash MYtruck, I will keep using my pto/fast idle feature to keep the truck up to operating temp. this winter.

I think the volt meter drops when the truck cycles the air intake heater , because of the high electrical load. mine dose it when its cold then stops when the engine starts to build some temp. I think the air entering the engine has to reach 66*F for it to not cycle.

makes sense to me. had noticed the lights dimming and getting brighter then saw that and realized that it was happening at the same time. Once I get through a gear or too it quits. Thanks for the update.
