Thumbs up I finally have a cummins!

Hey Members,
My first cummins and loving it!
Picked up a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 6.7L 6spd. auto, mega cab Laramie.
What a unreal truck. Used it for my trip the mountains in july and loved every minute of it! No complaints. Just a helluva truck!

Cool, make sure you search this site on "How to drive it" to keep the soot demons away

So where do I find out how to drive the soot demons away? I don't drive the truck much right now, just use it only to pull the 5th wheel and quads around! But probably in a month or two the truck will have to come out for the winter!

Don't lug the engine keep your rpms high around 2000
Drive with the exhaust brake on
Do some Wide open throttles from time to time for the sake of your turbo
Don't idle longer than 2-3 minutes without engaging the high rpm
work this horse...it likes that

How do you engage high rpm idle? other than putting your foot on the accelerator.

Turn on the cruise control and press 'set'. Your foot must be off the brake and the transmission in park. You should notice the RPM's increase to around 1100, if you feel you need a few more RPM's press 'ACCEL' and it will raise the RPM's about 100 each time you press the button. Now here is the kicker, If this does not work the dealer can 'enable' this function. I had mine done on a trip to the dealer for an oil change, they did not charge me to do it.At times of extended idle the engine will do it by itself and engage the EB, only if the truck is in park.

Thanks very much for the information. Have you had any troubles with your dpf?? I have been talking to a few guys and some say they have had problems and others say not. So far so good for me! i really have only pulled the trailer a few times around. Maybe put on 5000-6000kms. I didn't know that you could do that withe the cruise and the high idle... see i guess a guy does learn something new everyday!

Hope this is not a stupid question but I have heard a lot people say to drive with the engine brake on. Why is that? I have tried to find posts on this subject but have not been able to find anything (I am sure I just missed them). I was also thinking of running Amsoil in the engine. Is it really worth it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

P.S. I have a 2009 2500 which I have had for just a few months.
