Default HI, new one here, looking for some answers and maybe a new dodge in the future

Hi, I have a small problem with one 6.7L Cummins. After around 3000 km I have to change oil on the engine because somewhere it's leaking Diesel oil into the Engine oil. Have you had this problem and how did you fix it or do you know someone who had this problem ?

I've wanted a Dodge Ram from the first day I got my driver's licence, I think the 2500 03-06 with 5.9 L engine is the best one and I want to have that type in less than a year.

It's true that since the regeneration adds fuel to the exhaust stroke that some fuel finds it way into the oil but if you're seeing that much I'd take it to the service department since it's not normal.

well, I am working in the "service department" here in Iceland, or you can say so, I think there only around 2-3 workshops that have a Starscan tester, and access to Techauthority.com. I'm working in one of them, but I think no one is connected straight to Chrysler in USA.

This truck has had this problem since February/March/May 2008 and we haven't found a solution yet. I found this site and just asked about it, because you guys seem to have a lot info about the cummins engines.

Ask the owner if does a lot of slow speed driving or if he idles a lot?

I have my oil sampled at every oil change so that I can monitor the fuel in the oil. High idle time and intown driving at slow sppeds seem to be the common factor with fuel dilution. My last sample showed 3.4% which is well within the limits. I believe that I read that in the 6.7l they allowed 7% to be the high end and you have a problem. Normally 5% is tops. I have seen 5% with excessive idle time on my engine , just 1 time only, mostly it is around 3 - 4%.If you take your truck to one of the instant lube places they don't seem to allow the oil to drain long enough or allow it to rest enough to get an accurate level reading. Mine is usually about 1/2 qt above the full mark after a change and I watch them put in 12 qts.

The other thing you are dealing with is piston ring blowby. There was a problem early on with the 07's and crankcases being overfull. This seems to be a thing of the past but could be your problem with 3000 km's. The rings take time to seat and if you couple that with regens...Blowby is what you get. The piston rings in the 6.7 and others are designed to improve loading by combustion gas pressures. So when the pulse of fuel is injected at the bottom of the power stroke, the rings do not have as much gas loading. The ring cross-sectional keystone design is meant to provide a mechanical advantage as well as improved gas loading. As the ring seat, your problem should lessen...IMHO
