Default Hello from NM

Hello everyone! I'm interested in getting a cummins ram for sometime. I'm just afraid of the big engine might be hard to maintain or what. Anyway, I hope to have a great time here!

Hello yourself. Welcome to the forum. I have a Dodge like many others. It is no harder to maintain than a car; just different. The main challenge: changing oil. You use about 12 qt in a Diesel vs. 5~6 qt in a car. The oil is very black and stains clothes as well as your driveway. Water is also a challenge; keeping water out of the fuel is essential, but the fuel filter usually takes care of this. Some owners add extra fuel line filters to ensure they don't get any water into the engine. Compared to the late 70's and early 80's this isn't as much of a problem as it used to be.
If you have a newer model car (since mid-2000's) you can't do much maintenance on them since the computers control most items. The same for the diesel engines. Most of us must rely on a competent mechanic. Of course, reading articles on this forum will also help.
