Hi, I live in small town British Columbia, Canada. I have a 2007 Dodge with the 6.7 Cummins engine. The truck has about 25,000 miles on it and is primarlly used to pull our fifth wheel rv. The engine light has come on and has stayed on, I have found three codes that came up after going through the series of ignition on and off. The codes are: 0513, P2580, and P2580. Can anyone tell me what these codes mean (I mean in layman terms) and are they a serious thing. Can I correct the problem myself or will I need to take the truck in to a dealer to have repairs done? I am somewhat of a backyard mechanic and am willing and able to tackle almost anything on a gasoline engine, but this is my first experience with a diesel engine. Thanks in advance to all who reply!
Best regards, Grandpa |

Welcome. The first thing I need to ask is if you have all the updates done to your truck?
P2580 is a Turbo Speed sensor error . P0513 is an invalid SKM Key which deals with the antitheft system and the transponder in the ignition key. Since you are seeing both of these at the same time I'd just clear the codes and see if they come back since the key must be working and my money says it's just a ECM hiccup.

Thank you for the advice! I just ordered an OBD11 code reader today so when I receive it I'll cancel the codes and see what happens. My truck is up to date on any recalls from Dodge, but if there are any other updates from Cummins or ??? nothing has been done. The truck is straight stock from the factory as far as I know, I bought it used with 8,500 miles on it, so I can't be 100% sure. Thanks again!!

I received my OBD2 code reader today, I tried to read the codes as per directions, the reader went through all the steps as the manual said it should however it said there are no DTC codes. I thought if I disconnected the batteries for about 45 min. it would clear the codes, but after doing that the check engine light was still on and the same codes were still there when I did the thing with the ignition key. Is there some other way to clear the codes or is a trip to the dealer my last resort. Thanks
