Hello everyone, just purchased a new 2009 dodge 2500 qc sb 4x4 6.7 cummins and wanted to know a couple of things :
1)what mods are ok without voiding the warranty (i've done cai and mbrp 4" exhaust w/o muffler) 2) what are the largest tires that will fit on a stock truck (with the big horn package) 3)any programmers available for late 2009 trucks Thanks for your help |

Welcome!!
With the exception of a gutted intake tube, a drop in aFe filter, a 4" hole in the bottom of the air box and the EGR unplugged, my truck is stock. Until I see what is going to happen here in Alberta regarding testing, all the emissions stuff will remain. I may try an MP-8, but no down loadable programmer. There are many guys around here running 315-70-17s (+/- 35" tall) on stock wheels with no lift. Some report a slight rub on the lower control arms at full steering lock. I am having this debate right now as my truck needs new tires before trailer season starts. The debate is whether to go with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor 285-70-17s (33s) or Pro Comp A/T 315-70-17s (35s). I will stay with stock wheels. I pull a 30' 8,000 lb. travel trailer, with 1,000 lbs. in the box, between 15,000 and 20,000 kms each summer.

Thanks for the info, I only have 410 miles on my truck so it'll be awhile before any more mods are done. How long is break in for the cummins?

Drive it like you stole it from the get go. Baby it and you'll be in the Service Department with DPF and Turbo problems so have fun starting today.

Will do, thanks squid. DWRDodge6.7, you say your egr is unplugged, any problems with that? Did you do block off plates? I heard that the dpf delete was a great mod that frees up some horsepower, anyone have this on their truck? any problems? thanks.

Unplugging the EGR means the Check Engine Light will be your companion, it's always on. The plusses are a mile or two per gallon extra, cleaner oil and an increase in throttle response. Mine has been unplugged for 60,000+ kms.
The mods that I spoke of above along with unplugging the EGR have netted me 2 to 2.5 MPG. The truck consistently gets 20 to 21 MPG at 120 KPH on cruise with no load. More would be great but I am happy. Hell, it gets better fuel economy than my last tow vehicle, a 5.9 L Jeep ZJ. Towing, the Cummins is saving me 30 to 40 % over the Jeep and pulling a bigger heavier trailer to boot. It's a great truck and a joy to own and drive.

Thanks DWRDodge6.7, I will be doing this soon myself, was it just a simple unplugging of the egr switch or what? What do you think of the egr block off plates? I know you may have emissions where you are thats why you just unplugged it. When you plug the egr back in, does the cel go off? Thanks.

The plug is on the EGR body on the intake elbow under the hood. The block off plates are more permanent and some say require removal of the EGR butterfly. For now, I will stick with the unplugged EGR and watch what goes on with emissions testing etc. We often travel to BC in the summer where there is testing and visual inspection but at present, there is no testing here in Alberta. After plugging the EGR back in about 4 start cycles are required before the CEL goes out.

Ok thanks, I'll give it a try. Like you, I will be leaving the emissions equipment in place until I know more.
