In late 2007, just a couple of days before I purchased my 2007 Dodge/6.7 liter engine/factory diesel brake 3500 pickup, Dodge announced new 100,000 miles drive train warranties would apply to all of their vehicles. The salesman said the new 100k warranty applied to trucks as well. But I never received anything in writing to confirm this. It seemed like maybe the extended drivetrain warranty might not apply to diesels at all. Yet this exact same diesel engine/transmission drivetrain does carry a 100k drivetrain warranty for 2009. I can't get a straight answer from any website and I don't have a lot of faith in what my dealer says since I think my truck was the only diesel truck they sold all year (and it had to be gotten from another dealer). Has anyone tested the waters trying to get warranty service after the 3 year/36,000 mile basic warranty was up? Also, my air filter has 27,000 miles on it, but the sight guage says everything is performing fine. Should I change the filter anyway?

When I purchased my truck, I check on the 100K warranty and was shown the paperwork that it did not cover trucks (especially the 3500). I would call the district manager responsible for the dealers and ask questions there. Diesel trucks when I purchased mine had a separate warranty package to cover everything else that was not covered, had that tossed in at a fire sale during the purchase. Dodge itself offered nothing at the time of my purchase.
I have Banks / K&N and use it on a ranch, 20K plus miles later, the filter is always full of something, pipe all the pipes and turbo are clean ! The turbo shows no signs of polishing on the blades (that is where they void the warranty on after market cleaners).

Yeah the 100K warranty doesn't apply to our Heavy Duty trucks.

yep the diesel trucks have the below standard 3yr/36,000 warranty, and the engine is covered from cummins 60 month/100,000 I believe, but other than that your on your own unless you paid for a warranty plan from another company (or they did as part of your deal) some of the emissions equipment may have ( federal gov. mandated) life span warranty of a 120,000 miles but don't know much about it???? as for the air filter I think dodge was up to some thing there too , when I read in the owners manual about changing it ,as mine was dirty at 8,000 miles and looked as if it was lightly oiled to collect the amount of dirt that was on it (the oil was on the cold air side not engine side) maybe making it run with a restrictive filter? the owners manual says you can't tell air flow by seeing if its dirty, and that you should leave it till the indicator says to change it ??? mine was changed then and there, at 8,000 with one for a 5.9L and then again at 22,000 back to a 6.7L filter as I seen no real gains in the 5.9L filter over the 6.7L in performance/milage and the 6.7L seems to be a better filter? I will get a "dry" cold air filter system later on ... but i don't like the oiled ones like k&n as the oil gets sucked into the system ,contaminating the turbo and intercooler and thats also why I plan on changing the crank case filter before dodge say's to as well. best of luck and hope every one has a good holiday season.

The air filter itself in the 6.7 is different. I think I read some thing about a 99.85% efficiency rating? It sure is thicker. I did have my reservations about the K&N with it being an oiled filter. I chose it because it was way cheaper than an OEM one here in town ($60 vs $80), I also have taken the stand on watching it to make sure it does not oil up the inside of the system too. If it does show signs of oiling I will replace it properly, so far no signs of poor filtering or oil in the tubes. Also absolutely no power or mileage difference with it, just a little more turbo noise, thats all. I have run K&N's on most everything I have owned for 30 some years, I have experienced 1 problem with one that I over oiled because I was in a hurry to service it and did not pay attention, It stuck inside of the A/F box and had to be pryed out, damaging it in the process. So far I am happy with the filter, time will tell though.

Not I, but then again I'm at the 27 month mark with over 75,000 miles so that wouldn't do me much good, LOL.

My case its no good either. Scored a really good deal at purchase for 5/100K for much less and its full coverage. Only time will tell how good the coverage will be, especially at repair time !!
