They won't know and the CEL has like a 4 cycle clear so after you reconnect it it should disappear after your 4th start or so. We have some members that are running it unplugged. Since I rarely drive in town I left mine alone.

I mailnly drive in mountainous terrain and rarely in town however, the price of fuel is sneaking up once again and if it is true that you can capture another 1 or 2 miles to the gallon that could be a positive.
Are there other issues that could be of a concern regarding damaging any components or other considerations? |

What are the benefits of disconnecting the EGR? Are their any disadvantages w/ disconnecting it? Does it make the truck louder, smoke (can't see any smoke as of yet) I drive my truck 99% of the time in the city and every once in a while I tow my 25' T.T. to state parks which range from 2hrs. to 8hrs. on a one way trip.

One positive is no recirculated soot into the intake which will keep everything much cleaner including the engine oil. Also, by not allowing the super heated soot into the intake tract, this will keep inlet temperatures lower which will increase mileage and performance. The only negative I can think of is the cel may get annoying after a while.

I found that unplugging the EGR was good for 1.5 to 2 mpg, Imperial. Gutting the air intake tube and cutting a 4" hole in the bottom of the stock air box, was good for another 2 mpg. I have been running my truck with the EGR unplugged for 100,000 KMs. I saw no loss of power as some have claimed. The oil stays noticeably cleaner and there was an increase in throttle response.
