I am a louisiana pipeliner. I work for the local 798 pipeliners union. I use to have a Ford 7.3 powerstroke 4x4 lifted that would go through some bad ass tarrine. Than i bought this 2007 dodge 4x4 6.7 to keep working on the road, we traveal all over the US, i pull a 41' fifth wheel, i pack over a ton of waite on the back. I just hit 67,000plus and now the performe service shit came on. 2,000 miles old the front driver hub broke, the egr value been changed 3 times, and on top of that 4 recalls. I do run programers and banks. this truck dosent fell very trust worthy. I ran that 7.3 hooped up for 6 years got 19-23 miles to the gal. and nerver had problems even after 231,000 miles.
Now with that said i do own the biggest enjenin out there but if u know something i dont tell me because the power is there but the emmisions SUCK. thamks to this blog site i just found out i have 3 more recalls. if u ask me someting gotto give... |

Hello dodgepipeliner,
Welcome to the forums !! You will find here a group of folks using the 6.7L in a variety of methods with what seems above average. As for the front hubs, they are crap and do not take abuse at all, especially the 4x4 ones. That was a bad design and the bearings are WAY too close. Many in other forums have spent the extra cash are replaced them third party version which are heavy or extreme duty and take tons of abuse and use standard generic bearings for easy servicing. I plan to change mine real soon since where I have to use 4x4 on a ranch, means its 400 miles to home and at least 100 miles to the near tow truck. There are lots of folks here using the truck stock, towing large rigs and using as daily drives with excellent results. What year is yours ? The flash updates are extremely important if you still have the EGR and DPF. The latest J35 update seems to have some very positive effects on our trucks. One suggestion I have for you is to run with the EGR unplugged, especially if you are on trails and back routes. You will get less junk into the DPF and will not be trying to do DPF regens all the time, that will kill the system real fast and cause other problems. Only problem you will have with the EGR unplugged is the a light on the dash. What I find is when I do 4x4 mode with my truck that works the best, is EGR disconnected, keep the tranny in manual mode and keep the rpm's up (try to aim in the 1800 to 2000 range). I only plug my egr back when taking it in for service ![]() My truck is a 2008 dually, and been very pleased with its service. Its does require learning a new way to drive it, but once you know how to handle it, it works extremely well. Hope that helps a little. Cheers.
