I'm not sold on the idea that additives are not good for the 6.7. I'm open to any extra data that's out there. I've found, by imperial methods, big differences in diesel fuel in terms of mpg and regen frequencies from brand to brand and I would expect that the lubricity varies as well.
I think that I'll keep studing this matter and any additional information is greatly appricated.
What I'm, finding is that there really is not a normal diesel fuel. Virgin diesel fuel varies as well as the diesel fuel you buy on the road. Some fuels may not need additives, such as the true premium diesel fuel others require it because of their chemistry. It appears that #2 diesel is wide open as far as quality is concerned. You add to that our 6.7 design and it's anybody's guess what happens. GMScott, indicated problems on the 6.7 using open road #2 diesel and additives. I'm not sure if this is the additives combined with the #2 variables or just the #2 variables itself. In any case, GMScott is our elder in terms of experience. I'm going to stick with premium diesel, from those companies who report the against the standard, and not use additives to see what happens.

Man V, that report is crazy! I didn't even know about "premium" diesel and have not seen it at any of the stations I frequent in the Phoenix area including Loves, Mobil, Chevron and Valero.

Try Texaco or Shell. About the only visable difference is price and nothing on the pumps. The way you've keep records, you should see a difference in mpg without additives. I've seen a big difference (using Texaco Diesel) in mpg and fewer regens. Premium Diesel is a big deal in Europe and other countries...I don't believe that you will be able to fuel up at the same places that cater to big rigs. Premium Diesel can be purchased where cars and small trucks fuel up. Usually there are no big rig fuel bays at these stations. Proof is in the pudding .Give it a try.

Default Egr valve & cooler cleaning

Hello Folks,
I have a 2007-1/2 Dodge Mega-Cab, 4x4, 6.7L that I purchased used in May with 154,400 miles. The previous owner had replaced the turbo unit with the new 2008 version and a new clutch, both at about the 100,000 mile mark. The Perform Service on the EVIC came on about 2 days ago and I found out that I need to replace the CCV Filter and clean or replace the EGR Valve and EGR Cooler. I found the filter at a Cummins dealer that I can get for $73.16 versus the Dodge Dealership at $153.00. I need info as to where the EGR Valve and Cooler are located and what parts I need to clean them. The Cummins dealer says that they don't have the codes for working on 2007-1/2 engines.

Thanks for any and all info.

Respectfully,

RJC Design

I would do an egr delete and get rid of that dirty EGR. It will cost less than $100 bucks. You will have a CEL light but their are alot of foolers and programmers that can fix that. Just my opionion though.

I've been using Opti-Lube XPD during both under summer and winter weather conditions, and I've been very pleased with the results. I'm averaging about 16 mpg with 2/3 of my driving being in the city while running my engine brake and often in 4th/5th gear.

This is very good to know. In Edmonton, Alberta (near where I live) we have Shell diesel (89c/ltr)and Shell V-Max diesel (91c/ltr). The only difference on the pumps that I could find was the price. They are both ULSD fuels. The price difference is 2 cents a litre. About 8 cents a US gallon.

For that diffence I will buy the V-Max and see what happens.

Default 6.8 l/100k or 33mpg US

Was talking to a buddy who has a 2006 5.9 and he said he was getting 41 mpg (Imperial)!!! I asked him how and he mentioned he had a "fuel mileage chip". He is talking 1200 km per tank without running it dry...

I will be looking into this one a lot closer when I get home (in Toronto until Friday night) and see this magic chip.

Will keep you informed about what I learn, be it bonus or bullchips!

Default update

My buddy brought his truck over for an oilchange and to install a new GPS the other night so I was able to get a bit more info on his MPG upgrade chip.

It is a Predator model 1804?(i only got a quick glimpse of the model number) and he also uses a fuel treatment.

Howes Lubricator is the fuel conditioner used. It states "safe for use with ULSD fuels". We calculated his overall MPG is closer to 28MPG Imperial (23US). His hiway mileage is closer to 35(Imp) according to the overhead when he stays under 65mph.

Has anyone else tried a Predator chip or Howes Lubricator?
