Both times this has occurred was just after trailering. The truck doesn't run any different, it still runs just fine. I just have this CEL and whistle when I start it now. Going in to the dealership again Monday, going to have a long talk with them. Maybe they can tell me how to get the code. Question: Will this CEL ever clear itself if a condition is cleared or is it on until the dealer clears it?
Well, if at first you don't succeed (or after many attempts) try, try again. I kept trying and I got the "key on 3 times" to work. You have to be REALLY fast at it. But there was no code, a blank display, then I got --------, and then the "done". But no code displayed. But I am going in to the dealer tomorrow. I will let you know what the dealer says.

Thank you for post that. I have been unable to pull a code with the key method; I just thought it was because I did not have any codes. Well I did it 3 times “fast” like you said and it worked. I did have a code after all; it was P0513-invalid Skim Key. I do not know what that means. My Edge Insight showed I had no codes, not even the p0513.

P0513-INVALID SKIM KEY

  • When Monitored: Key on
  • Set Condition: Invalid Key Code received from SKIM Module
Possible Causes
GENERAL NETWORK ERROR
KEY NOT PROGRAMMED
INCORRECT KEY
INCORRECT VIN IN ECM OR SKIM
LOSS OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ECM AND SKIM

I'm glad to hear you all with the 08's finally got it to work.

Replaced oxygen sensors both sides and wrapped exhaust per TSB 18-035-08. They still haven't explained to me yet why I could not get a trouble code. I have call in to Service Manager for explanation. They were really, really busy there this morning. I don't feel as bad about buying this diesel and it's "Check Engine Light" problems now. There were several gas engines there this morning for CEL and one guy had just bought his new RAM (gasoline) last Thursday and was in for the CEL. He had just switched from a Ford and its CEL problems.

So they didn't tell you what code if any they pulled? Also since they changed the oxygen sensors do you notice any difference in the performance of the truck now?

Checked tonight for codes using the mentioned procedure and was happy to see dashes "-" done! I bought this 2007 truck in August with 11k miles and have put 1,300 miles on it in a month. Most of it on the highway with my truck camper towing my Jeep. Did make a trip to Vegas empty to get the two recalls serviced at the closest dealer. So far loving it. I know you guys will be here for me when the first hick-up occurs!!!
I added a K&N in the stock box and that helped the empty mileage on the lio-meter from 14.7 to 16.6! My actual calculated mileage is about 1 mph less than the lio-meter.

Thanks for all the great information on the site.
