Had the check engine light on my Dodge Ram 3500 come on with only 1700 miles on it and figured it was just the gas cap but decided to go ahead and find out how to pull the code and here's how.
Just turn the key from off to on 3 times and leave it in the on position the third time. The odometer will display any and all codes and when it's displayed them all it will show ------- and then it will say done. This post has pictures as proof it works. http://www.cumminsownerz.com/2668-post12.html

hey I tried this several times today since I had a code pop up. For some reason it doesn't work for me? I'm turning the key all the way to the off position to the on position not starting it, and doing this 3 times still nothing.

Just some food for thought.
I'm a mechanic and been in the game now nearly 20 years I took a class a few weeks ago that covered EVAP systems. The reason a check engine light will be lit with a loose fuel Cap on a Gasoline powered vehicle is due to The EVAP system (Charcoal Canister). and the newest computerized sensors detecting a leak of the gas fumes. Back in the day when computers came out on vehicles, check engine lights were mandated by the EPA should something go wrong with the emissions system. Then the manufacturers added other codes or reasons for check engine lights to come on in addition to emmisions. However when it comes to Diesel it is combustable not flamable and should not have a EVAP system because as a general rule diesel does not evaporate AKA no fumes. but i suppose the manufacturer could have put some kind of sensor that moniters if the cap is tight. If i'm wrong someone correct me.... ![]() |

your Tire pressure monitering system should have its own light. Did it set both lights?
the dealer can also change your pressure default settings for the tire system because some different tires/sizes require different pressures. the dealor also told me that they will not re-program for different tire heights due to EPA rules. |
