I know it's been a while since you posted, so I hope you get this.
When you unplug the EGR, you will get a code until the end of time unless you have some way of clearing the code (read: fool the computer). This is done with a tuner. Many people use Smarty and I have heard lots of good things about them. I have one of H&S's tuners and am very happy with it. You can pick up a good EGR delete kit for around 100 bucks and put it on yourself. BUT.... I would not recommend plugging the wire back into the EGR and then trying to block off the tube. When the EGR "gate" is opened, it is trying to send exhaust gas back into the intake to be recycled. If you leave the EGR plugged in, then the EGR continues to let the gas pass thru the tube, but your plug won't let it. This will tell the computer that the EGR is stopped up and needs cleaning, which throws a code of it's own.

diamond eye makes a good dpf delete it's what i have on my truck. to delete the egr you will need a programmer to reprogram the truck. I went with the egr/cooler delete from H&S and have a black maxx tuner as well. the truck runs amazingly well with all that emissions stuff removed.
