Default air filter change

I have an 09 3500 and with 14,000 miles of over the road think I should change my air filter.

What stock type filters are best and what should the frequency of change be for over the road use.

I pulled mine at 10K and there was a layer of road crud so thick I could not see the paper. I replaced mine at 25K with a K&N drop in. It was cheaper that the replacement paper one.

Yes, it is cleanable and is of the same construction as most all of the K&N's.
I bought it at an AutoZone and I think it was $56.00 or close to that. The paper one I bought was $78.00. No brainer the way I look at it. The rumor going around is that the K&N does not filter well and will allow dust to enter the intake. I have not witnessed this with mine. I have run K&Ns in just about everything I have owned for 30 years and here in the desert southwest dust is a problem. The things I took into account was the CTD sucks a greater volume of air than a gasser for sure. Regular servicing, properly and do not over oil the filter, apply oil only when dry, do not blow the filter out with air (to clean or dry) use K&N products only, I feel are keys to sucessfully using a K&N air filter. People seem to take the sales literature seriously, 50,000 and it still flows better than a stocker. Yup it will but the dirt will be so imbedded you will have to almost destroy the filter to clean it (This is experience talking, seen it, done it, won't do it again) My 96 has had a K&N since it was 1,000 miles old, service every 10,000 miles and reseated by myself only to ensure it is installed properly. I inspect the intake for any dust infiltration every time it is removed, so far 1 corner seems to have a pin hole leak so I use a dielectric grease (some K&N kits come with a tube of it) I apply a thin coat to the sealing side of the gasket and reinstall. NEVER let the Spiffy Luber guys do this for you!, the 6.7l air box is tight (The German kind of tight) and the tube should come off to install it properly, I consider myself a very mechanicaly inclinded person and it was a challange to install it the first time. So far after the second cleaning no dust. Good luck and this is just my opinion, there are a lot of real good high effieiency filter set ups out there that will probably out preform the K&N. As far as the model, I think there is only one part number for the 6.7l.

See if your truck needs the recall/reflash. Owners are reporting a pretty nice increase in MPG. Follow this link My Dodge: Official Dodge Owners website - Warranty, Vehicle Specs, Service Contracts, Financing, Dealers and on the left side is a place for you to input your last 8 digits of your VIN to check for Recalls for your Particular Dodge/Ram.

I have been running a drop in after market filter since about 10,000 KMs. I alternate between a K&N and an aFe. Both are cone type and both can be cleaned and re-oiled. I am also running a gutted air intake tube and a 4" hole and flange in the bottom of the stock air box. The truck now has 87,000+ KMs on it.
