You are right, there should not be any smoke. My advise is to get some sort of a monitor so you can see what it's doing.
I haven't the faintest idea how they clean a DPF at the dealer...It's possible you're blowing out residue...Good luck and keep us informed

I'm wondering do you have black soot on your exhaust pipe? I have 30,000 miles and mine is as clean as the day I got it.

DPF cleaning is done with a vacuum and compressed air. Basically remove as much soot as possible with the vac, then use compressed air blowing in from the exhaust side. Cleaning is done when no soot or ash comes out. Bad cells can be found when compress air returns on itself instead of coming out the input side ... enough "bad cells" and the filter will be very restrictive.

A wire slightly smaller than the cell size with a sharp point can be used to try and unplug/pierce the blockage to get flow again .... It must be done carefully !

No chemicals are used to clean the DFP

Hope that helps.

And one of the test they do to see if the DPF is bad is Rev the motor and see if black smoke comes out the tailpipe. I'm trying to find where I saw this at and I'll post it up.

Well, I'm still blowing black smoke and now I have the code P2002-diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold, when I found that code in the list I also found the original code when the problems first started when I said the truck was running hot P200c-diesel Particulate Filter Over Temperature

Guess another trip to the dealer is in order.

The good news is she's under warrenty........the bad news is what caused it to go bad in the first place? Something on the truck or did the Service Tech screw the pooch?

well this is getting old fast, went in to the dealership today to talk to them and make an appointment. That weren't busy so he pulled it right in, did a "flash" and took it out for a 45 minute drive. Said it's gotta throw that same code before Chrysler will approve replacing the DPF, seeing its gonna cost $4,000. Apparently it's thrown different codes everytime and that doesn't allow them to replace it yet. It's still blowing black smoke so I'm guessing in a few days I'll be headed back to the dealership, probably with a different code. I asked them about wrapping the pipe and replacing the O2 sensors, he said I didn't show the right code to apply that TSB.

Well, I had to drive the truck to work tonight because the clutch cable broke on the motorcycle, 35 miles on the truck since it was at the dealership yesterday and the check engine light is back on. P2002 again, looks like I'm getting a new DPF!

You ought to disconnect the connectors on the 02 sensors and then start the truck a couple of times right before you leave for the Dealership so the O2 codes come up, then reconnect the connectors so they can change them out too.

Squid, I never though of that, ha ha I'll get them for screwing me around!

You have any pictures of O2 sensor locations and connectors so I know exactly what I'm looking for.
