Thanks guys this is sounding better (worse)..Okay so now to change to these boogers.

Is there any online information and can you tell me what I am looking at in terms of time and parts.

Can't beleive I could have a failure like this with so few miles. My last ford went 300,000 miles with a failed water pump 200,000 miles, belt tensioner 250,000, and aircondition compressor 150,000. Pulled stock trailer with cattle most of the time with many tough trips on the ranch. Still had original wheel bearing and u-joints. Love the way this truck works especially the manual tranny but will it keep breaking.

Appreciate all of you all's help!!!!!

Bill

Default front axle u joints

OK purchased new replacement front axle u joints from Quad in Montana.

Have rounded up everything I need except for 1 11/16 socket which I should get todayl

My truck is an o 09 and I bascially live in a high desert area so I am hoping that things come apart without to much difficutly.

Has anyone done this repair and if so any tips.

I have a Driveline company in Carson City that will do the repair for $300 with me providing the parts.

Help!!!

Let me round up the info.

Just to prepare you. If they use road salt where you live you may also be replacing Hub Bearings since they don't use anti-seize during assembly at the factory.

If they aren't rusted on you may be able to just jack the front up and actually use the power steering to free up the hubs and the Job will be quick and pretty easy. If the Hubs are rusted on then you're going to have a major fun time beating the hubs out.

Took truck in Monday morning and truck was done by 2 pm. Talked to the mechanic and asked to look at old parts. He said they were not that bad and that the ujoint on the driver's side was dry. The ujoint didn't look wasted at all. Also mentioned (of course since I didn't do it) that the axles came out rather easily. Should never have listened to wife...just kidding.

The mechanic also mentioned that the axle seals looked better heavier duty than other ones he had done.

All done for the price of the parts from quad 4x4 roughly $200 delivered and
$300 for labor.

Truck feels back to normal and back to the road we go.

Thanks for everyones input!!!!!

Cool!

Like I said if the Hub bearing isn't rusted then the job isn't that tough.

I used the OTC front end service kit http://www.amazon.com/OTC-6295-Front.../dp/B0002SRH7O and it worked great not only for U-Joints but also for when I had to replace steering linkage when the Tie-rod separated.

Did my front axel u-joints last week. Four hours total out and in. Used the power steering to push out the hub bearings. Had Pat's Driveline install Spicer HD Permalube joints.
