Both of my batteries showed 12.2x volts and that was enough to throw codes and battery tester said both were defective.

Well I for one have learned a lot, thanks for sharing!

Now I have to wonder how much further my 3 year old batteries will go?

My batteries have been acting up too. I had to have them on the charger a few times and they are just about at 3 years old. CRAP!

Batteries are very sensitive to cold, they decrease power almost exponentially when below freezing, I recommend gel cell or optima type batteries for low temp areas because bottom line, they dont have water in them. Dodge sells a battery blanket to help the frozen battery situation..
Nice insight though about letting them cool down then test them!

If you go AGM battery, think about Odyssey Model 65-PC1750T (for a 6.7L diesel) vs Optima. Much better battery, direct replacement, longer life. Seems to take abuse far better and better warranty services.

General specs, look for the above model: ODYSSEY Batteries - Battery Specifications

My batteries, little over 2 years old are leaking ..... Batteries also hate vibration ..... Go figure, a diesel truck with batteries right next to the engine is bound to see vibration and what a surprise to see battery problems. So pissed ! Working on getting local quotes on the above batteries.

Just made a trip to FT Smith for christmas i live in Northwest Fl and had temps while there in the teens and the batteries have performed well and no codes so the battery was the whole problem.
