Default Oil Change Indicator System

Hi All: I'm heading out on a 4-5000 mile round trip and want to change oil before I go. Truck isn't due for a change yet. When I change the oil is there any way to signal the processor and the EVIC to start a new oil change cycle so that I don't get a prompt in another couple thousand miles. I didn't see anything about this scenario in the owners manual. Dave

Default Oil Change Light

To reset oil life monitor, turn key to ON position but do not start....all your dash lights should be on ( mine is two clicks forward from when the key is inserted) With the key in the ON position, and the truck not running, depress the gas pedal 3 times to the floor, and then shut the key off. This should reset your oil life monitor. It is listed in the manual, but I dont know what page.

Good luck

Thanks Smith449: I read that in the manual but didn't know if it would reset after a short oil change period when the reminder on the overhead had not yet come on. I would like to see if I can syncronize the reminder after a short oil change cycle. Thanks Dave

It won't reset unless it's showing and it should not be trusted. I went 13,000 miles one time before it came on.

Thanks Squid: I kinda thought that would be the case. I think you are right about not trusting it. I'll just do what I've done for 40 years, that hasn't let me down yet. I'll use the overhead reminder as a safety valve. Thanks Dave

Not a problem. I have to admit I was more then a little disappointed it didn't work since I have a fleet of vehicles to maintain.

Oh well, that's why they have trip meters, smart phones or old school pen and paper. HAHAHA
