Squid, well that is interesting question ! I have the feeling that its a standard procedure now. Seeing this on other forums, anything related to the exhaust system gets a complete cleaning, manual DPF regen initiated.
The turbo cleaning is cleaning the push rod and bushings on the actuator. Something clearly not needed on this truck since the EB is always on. Pulsating EB is not a result of sticking push rod and bushings. Its more of a case of it not engaging when turned on or not dis-engaging when turned off. However, I do find it very interesting on how many O2 sensor failures there are. Did it fail after the cleaning ? If so, how ? Does the 2009 have a defective O2 sensor issue also ? From what I am seeing posted here, they where fishing and really do understand what was going on or a whole heck more stuff happened which was not documented (not possible since its warranty work and they get reimburse based on details): Quote:
Not very many experienced Cummins 6.7 experienced diesel mechanics out there ! My dealer scares me when I see their mechanics working on the 6.7 with student guides out ... I can go into some really scare stuff about that. Computer diag is not the solves all (speaking as a electronic/software engineer), it is just an aid, no excuse to rid experience staff for cheaper non-experienced.Cheers.

Bill,
Intercooler is for cooling the charged intake air from the turbo, nothing to do with this. DPF (diesel particulate filter) is what has the potential of plugging depending on usage/driving habits, its your soot trap. You will get plenty of warnings before that happens before the point of no return. If your dealer is Carson Dodge, those folks know their diesel trucks and from what I hear, you should be in good hands. They should have documented pre-cleaning loads since their scanner tool would have shown that. The edge insight can proved 100% of the info needed via the OBDII port and there are NO warranty issues behind that. Its a NOT a tuner but a read only diagnostic unit. If the dealer has something to say (and they will), have them refer to the Edge website and look up Insight. Once they see its a read only diag unit, all conversions go mute. Already had that fight with my dealers and posted here on this site the results. Thinking more about the replaced O2 sensor and looking at more tech specs, oxygen sensor feedback is used to help determine whether the target exhaust gas recirculation is being achieved. So it could aid in loading the DPF more. Looking at the tech docs about the O2 sensors, they are smart sensors and errors are communicated to the ECM via J1939 datalink. Will look tomorrow to see if that is something we can watch via the insight. Cheers.

had to make a trip to sacramento yesterday and had a chance to try truck after the repairs that were done. It seemed that I had more regens and that the truck was certainly very peppy.
coming and going to Sacramento from Northern Nevada over hwy 80 it was all four wheel drive. coming back was really bad with 8 to 12 inches of snow. the lyo meter still indicated 18.5 for the 380 mile round trip..Oh well Will keep you all posted.. |
